Thread: Foreign language bashing

I wanted to put this in general chat but I'll just put it here.

I see a lot of foreign language bashing. It's not cool.
I'm an english speaker myself and hate when i see
another english speaker bashing and making fun of someone
for posting broken english. Don't you get it that it's not their first language
and their really trying hard? Google translate and babelfish are garbage
but that's the best translators available online. That's what they have to use to even post here.

Imagine for a moment. English wasn't the major language.
Say it was russian, argentinian or turkish and so ps3iso
only allowed you to speak in russian, argentinian or turkish.
Then you would have to use google translate or babelfish.
Post some broken language the translator translated for you
thinking it's right. Then someone makes fun of you. Bashes you.
Took a piece of broken language you posted and puts it in their signature making
fun of you like it's cool. You wouldn't like it right?

So why do it to someone else?
I have many cool friends all over the internet.
Some don't speak english like I don't speak their language.
We have to use online translators and never make
fun of who writes what broken.

Seriously stop. It's childish, ignorant bs.

To those that know what I'm saying and understand. Awesome.
To those that don't. This is a wake up call.

I personally don't mind people posting in broken English because they don't speak it very well (if at all), being someone who English is not my first language I can sympathize with them.
It's the ones choose "dat typ lik dis n dat" because they are too lazy to type words that really cheese me off.

To those that don't. This is a wake up call.

I understand that not all of us speak English as our native language. However, some member's posts are very hard to read & understand. I used to make replies talking about this grammar/punctuation but it's not necessary.

Having said that, people not speaking English as their native language can make it hard for most people on here to read & get the meaning of their comments. I don't warn or give infractions for non-English grammar unless the entire post is made up of total foreign language. Thanks!

I love that this forum is so multicultural. it keeps me active until all hours of the night.
to think just years ago this would not be possible. thanks google translate!

if only they made a system that could interface to you in your language and translates it all when you post.

i reminber the doctor saying that we needed one of this. just like the psx scene did a while back

It's great that this site can attract so many users from such diverse cultural backgrounds. When I see posts with broken English, it doesn't bother me, though it does take a bit more time to ascertain what exactly is being said.

However, i also don't mind when people bash said posts. I love that we live in an environment where free speech is encouraged and protected, regardless of how douche-y it makes that person seem. Besides, if English isn't your primary language, and you visit an English site where it is the dominant language, you have to understand what you're getting yourself into. I would never visit a Turkish site with the expectation that everything will be 100% crystal clear for me, communication wise.

just reminbered about this that google chrome has a feature to translate a language
that's not your default

that's only to download it when it is loaded(and I'm pretty sure there is a firefox extension that does that too). I am talking about something that translates posts you make into the target language when you post them(using google translate as it seems to work the best).

It actually worked quite well except for the fact that it used the Google translate engine which is far from perfect.
