    Default PSX games on PS2?

I apologize in advance if this belongs in the PS2 section, I was unsure about it, but decided to post here since it has a lot less topics than the aforementioned.

What I need to know is if I can play PSX/PSOne (mostly NTSC) games on my PAL slim PS2 (SCPH 75004) without making use of a modchip.

I have read all threads here, more by googling and watched a crapload of YouTube videos, but they just ended up confusing me even more.

I do have a moded PSX but in order to load a disc, it needs to be turned off and then on again. This does not allow me to keep playing the 2nd/3rd CD-s of games such as Lunar 1 and 2 and most probably Dragon Warrior VII/Valkyrie Profile/Xenogears/Grandia/Legend of Dragoon...etc. Unlike FF 7/8/9 they do not save right before swapping discs.

You can, you'll have to patch the games image (bin/cue or ccd/img/sub) with a NTSC to PAL patcher.

Without a modchip it is possible with a swap trick but you will have the same problem you currently have with multi disk games.

I thought the FF7-9 games asked you to save before swapping disks? (it's been a while since I've played them)
If they do then just load the next disk like you do normally and load that save.

I recommend downloading ePSXe and playing PSX games on your PC, it's less of a hassle.

That's not a problem. I just want to reach the next disc and save immediately so I can switch to my modded PSX. About a dozen times in total.

    This.

I got tired watching those videos explaining the swap trick. Which never worked for me.

Man, that's what I said : the FF games ALWAYS prompt a save menu once a cd is over. This way I can turn the console off, swap discs and load the game where I left. I was just playing with FF 9 yesterday so I am 100% sure about it.

So, then, is there any guarantee that the modchip can solve this issue, as far as you can remember/know? I don't want to travel 600 kilometres back and forth, plus pay 70 euros just to discover that it is useless.

I remember my first PSOne (1998) was modded too but didn't have this problem. Am I right in guessing that it was modded with a different chip?

You'll have to ask the person who sells you the modchip if it can switch discs and if it can play pal and ntsc... there's no way for anyone on this forum could make this garanty as we don't know what you're buying.

Before traveling 600 miles, you might want to give epsxe 1.7.0 a try... that's free and works very well.

    Agreed.
An adapter to plug your PS1/2 controller into your pc only costs about $9 (USD) plus shipping.
