Burning PS Games
This is going to be a lot of questions..sorry if this is too much. Although this would help others as a reference for later =)
I'm completely new to this whole ordeal. I'm already able to run my discs without a lid, I just stuck a small piece of paper towel near the eject button. I think I get the whole tactic of the swapping discs. You have an legit PS1 disc and your burnt disc and you quickly switch when they slow down.
1. What type of CDs would I use to burn and play a game on the PS?
2. I've seen these reoccur VERY often; files extensions like .iso, .bin, etc...
Are there specific types of files I need to play burned games ON a PS. I see here and there that if you use a memorex brand that it damages your sensors or something.
3. So when I download files, they are usually in several links. Assuming it's a .rar file would I just extract them all and then what? I'm completely clueless after that.
4. I have Nero, so I think I can use that to burn the games onto the CDS. What speed would I use to burn it at so it doesn't freeze up during gameplay?

I never had problems with Sony or Fuji or Verbatim, and Maxell have always worked for me but they don't seem to work for some

Those are copies of the game cd in different formats... as long as you use a program that recognizes and can burn them, you'll be fine as it will extract the files and burn those. These formats are on computer only.

I don't know if Memorex damages the console, but they buy theirs cds in batch so you never know if you get a good batch or not. I stay away from memorex since I threw out half a spindle of dual layer dvds because they wouldn't burn in any computer, and that was when they were still expensive.

The links are the different parts to a single file. You need to download all the parts, then extract the image file. If you use winrar you can just extrat the first file and it will find the rest of the info from the other parts. If you use 7zip highlight all the parts then right-click and Extract here.

I recommend Alcohol 120% over Nero... choos PlayStation as disc type and burn at 4x... I have a 100% success rate with this method.

I have actually tried contacting Memorex about this issue they sent me coupons on more crummy discs!!! Stay away from memorex!

Well I just burned my first PSX game successfully :D I used a Sony CD-R with Alcohol 120%. The game works great. Although I'm a bit worried if I did something wrong during the process. I could only burn the game at maximum speed with Alcohol 120%. People always say to use 4x with PSX games, could this possibly damage my PSOne if I didn't burn it at 4x?
Btw, I did the swap trick for the game to run. So could I do the same for the PS2 Slim? Using a PS2 legit game and a burned PS2 game and switching them off.
Thanks in advance!

It's kind of contradictory that you use the swap trick on a PS1, yet you worry that the speed at which you burned your backup might damage the console... the worst thing you can do to it IS the swap trick. Burning at higher speed might cause glitches in the game, but it wouldn't damage the console.
There is a way to swap on the PS2, but I would suggest you use it to install fmcb on your memory card so that you can then boot esr patched games. Look here, there are many ways to do it. This website is a goldmine of information. You should also look at the compatibility as I'm not really familiar with what will or won't work on a slim. You can also look into the cogswap which is basically to cut a plastic card in a specific way to eject the tray without the PS2 noticing it, but fmcb and esr is way better.

let me rephrase your question... how could making the console believe the lid is closed in order to be able to pull out the disc while it's still spinning and pop another one in NOT damage the console? It's bad for the laser and for the motor.

Yeah I figured that out after my last post when I was on youtube. I'll just have to be more careful when switching discs I guess
Thanks for you help. +K
