Thread: what's the deal with .ecm files

I've noticed quite a few of the psx files i've downloaded have .ecm at the end of them

now idk how to get around it but those files do not work in epsxe while the ones without .ecm at the end work just fine

is there some specific reason they have this extension at the end of them and how do i fix the files so they work in my emu or on my modded psx

that should do it, dl that and use it to extract the .ecm file, I believe its a
compressed file, like winrar and all that jazz, why did the use a compression method like that you ask?

I haven't the foggiest...

If i remember right it was used to "preserve"t he games in 1:1 format, basically to keep the game untouched, just a bunch of rubbish imo, 7z and winrar have always worked fine for my PSX collection and for scene collectors etc.

thank you both for your quick replys. I downloaded and used the program on a game. the game works great

definetly unneeded extra steps. copy file to ecm directory...jump to cmd.exe... goto directory...run ecm....wait....copy file back.... yea wait to much extra.


im grateful for the games but i dislike very strongly whoever used .ecm as the "ideal" method
