Default 4.40CFW Rogero v1.03 noob friendly Installation tutorial

Disclaimer: Install with caution and follow instructions. No one will be held responsible for any damage caused.
Note: You need to have a USB stick with a capacity of atleast 512MB.
Note: This tutorial assumes your using Windows OS, however, you will still be able to use this tutorial on any other OS so long as you find a good MD5 checker that is compatible with your OS.
    Note: Always perform MD5 checks!
    Note: Remove all discs now!
    Note: Disable internet connection!
Note: Using the usb port closest to the Blu-ray drive is recommend.
    Note: Removing spoofers is recommended.
Note: Sony seems to be banning cfw users. Stealth mM will not cover you, so at this point, avoid using PSN.
Note: Below are two separate tutorials. Use the one that suits you.

Step 1 - Preparing USB stick (format)
    Spoiler:
Connect your USB stick to your computer.
Go to my computer, right click on removable drive and click on format.
    File system = FAT32

Step 2 - Preparing USB stick (folders)
    Spoiler:
Create a folder called PS3, within that folder create a folder called UPDATE.
So it will be like this - USB\PS3\UPDATE\

Step 3 - Transfer 3.55CFW KMEAW, MultiMan, Showtime, and Toggle_QA.
    Spoiler:
First copy and paste MultiMan, Showtime, & Toggle_QA to the root of the USB stick. (Eg USB:/multiMAN ver 04.40.00 BASE CEX (20130602).pkg)
Now Copy and paste 3.55-KMEAW-PS3UPDAT.PUP into the UPDATE folder.
Once copied, rename 3.55-KMEAW-PS3UPDAT.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP
    (USB\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP)
Now run MD5 checks on all the files, this is very important! (refer to md5 check & sums above)

Step 4 - Get into recovery menu
    Spoiler:
First make sure there is no game or any sort of disc inside the PS3. If there is, it is very important you take it out now!
Now make sure the PS3 is off.
Hold down the power button until it shuts down again.
Let go and hold down the power button again, let go when you hear a double beep.
You can also have a look at this video on how to get into recovery menu: (video by chickensonsticks)
    Spoiler:

It will ask you to connect controller via usb cable and pressing the PS button, do that.

    Step 5 - Updating to 3.55CFW KMEAW
    Spoiler:
Once your in recovery menu, plug your USB stick into the far right port.
    Select System update
Now the rest is easy, accept everything and just follow on screen instructions.

Step 6 - Installing MultiMan, showtime, and Toggle_QA
    Spoiler:
Now you should be updated to 3.55CFW KMEAW.
From XMB (ps3 menu), scroll over to games section and click on install packages.
One by one click and install all.
First install multiMAN ver 04.40.00 BASE and so on.

    Step 7 - Dehashing
    Spoiler:

Now go to the game section in XMB.
If you scroll down you should see Toggle_QA.
Click on it, your screen will go black and it will reboot into XMB.
Now go to network settings, don't click into it, just hover or highlight over it.
    Then all at once press the following combo - L1 + L2 + L3 (press left stick) + R1 + R2 + dpad_down
You should see Edy Viewer, Debug Settings, and Install Package Files if done correctly.
If you do not see it, run the Toggle_QA program again until you see it.

Step 8 - Nand/Nor backup (skip if you already have a valid backup) - Tutorial by FeintNightmare
    Spoiler:

Note: You need to have atleast one PS3 game on your HDD.
Note: If you do not, you can either FTP a game to it or you can run multiMAN, insert any original PS3 game, hover over the game and press triangle, then click copy.
Note: Once you've created that backup, take out the disc and proceed with the tutorial.

    1. Insert a FAT32 formatted USB to the right-side port of your ps3 and run multiman.
    2. After it loads , start file manager/mmOS ( its an option that is there in Multiman)
(NOTE: shortcut to start multiman's file manager SELECT+START)
If a file manager is not open, click on PS3 root.
3.when using file manager , go to to /dev_hdd/GAMES/* any game u have*/
    ( example: /dev_hdd/GAMES/CODBOP2/)
and open the PS3_DISK.SFB file(or the param.sfo file of the game) by pressing 'X' 2 times on it.

    4. after u open the .SFB file u can see a lot of numbers ,shown in a hex-decimal form,
    as shown in the image
press SELECT and u will get a LV2 View.

    5. when on LV2 view press start , (that is after we pressed select in step 4.)

    6. you will then get a message " Do u want to export GAMEOS LV2 memory to a file",press no, then it will show a message asking " Do u want to export HV LV1 memory to a file" say no for this as well, and then u will get a 3rd message asking "Do u want to export FLASH memory to a file" say yes to this.and it will start the dumbing process.the dumb will be saved to the root of ur usb.
    7. you can now exit multiman, disconnect the usb from ur ps3 and connect it to your pc,
and inside the USB u can find a file named 201***FLASH-NOR-FW.3.55.NORBIN (if ur ps3 has NOR) or 201***FLASH-NAND-FW.3.55.NANDBIN( if ur ps3 is having NAND).

Transfer nand/nor back up to your computer and keep it safe.

    Step 9 - Transfer 4.40CFW Rogero v1.03
    Spoiler:
Plug USB into your computer and save your nand/nor backup at a safe place on your computer.
    Then quick format USB & recreate PS3/UPDATE folders. (step 1 & 2)
Copy and paste Rogero_CEX-4.40_v1.03.PUP into UPDATE folder.
    Rename Rogero_CEX-4.40_v1.03.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP
    (USB\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP)
Now run MD5 checks on it, very important!

    Step 10 - Updating to 4.40CFW Rogero v1.03
    Spoiler:
Make sure there is still no disc in BD and that no internet connection is available.
Plug your USB to your PS3.
Then go to system update in XMB and from there select mass storage.
    Your done installing

    Step 11 - Final comments
    Spoiler:
Now you should be on 4.40CFW Rogero v1.03.
You should now unplug USB and format it.
You should now keep a game in your BD drive to ensure 100% compatibility, I personally bought PES08 for £1.50 which I always keep inside, except when I'm updating/downgrading, as you should never keep a disc inside during that process.

Stealth MultiMan (optional) (tutorial partially from Deank's post)
    Spoiler:
Note: This was previously recommended for online gamers, but Sony is detecting & banning cfw users.
Note: This does not mask the cfw but rather the app itself, so at the moment there is little point in installing this because I would imagine you don't want to connect to PSN to get banned.
Note: Once you've got stealth multiMAN installed, you should update it from within the app.

    ==================================

    * Copy installPKG.pkg and report_data.txt to the root of a USB stick/drive
    * Install "installPKG", reboot, install from the bubble
    * Start [* Install Package Files] standalone from the icon in XMB (not from /app_home)
    * Press [START] to "Update and Load Stealth multiMAN"

    Method #2:
    ==========
    * Rename report_data.txt to anyFileName.self and Copy to USB stick or PS3 HDD
    * Use multiMAN mmOS, locate the file and double-click on it
    * mM stealth will install and start

Once you've booted stealth mM at least once you can safely delete the 'regular' mM from XMB if you wish.

How to load the stealth multiMAN:

    1) Restart your PS3
    2) Go go /app_home (which will change to the last game you loaded or to [* Install Package Files]) and press [X] to start it.
    3) Then press [select] to load stealth multiMAN.

    Install 4.41 Spoofer (recommended)
    Spoiler:
    This serves two purposes.
The first being that it makes it appear as though you're running 4.41, so people shouldn't be able to accidentaly update it as the latest version is 4.41.
Secondly this enables PSN access, however, keep in mind it is not safe to use PSN.

    Start the MD5 check utility.
Copy the relevant MD5 code and click paste in the program.
Click on browse and select the file you want to verify.
    It will then start checking.
Results: "The codes Match" - if it says this, then the files are good
Note: If it says the codes do not match, then do not use that file!, transfer again and run another MD5 check. If it fails again, re-download the file.

Step 1 - Preparing USB stick (format)
    Spoiler:
Connect your USB stick to your computer.
Go to my computer, right click on removable drive and click on format.
    File system = FAT32
    Allocation unit size 32kilobytes
You can quick format or full format, up to you.
    Then hit format.

Step 2 - Preparing USB stick (folders)
    Spoiler:
Create a folder called PS3, within that folder create a folder called UPDATE.
So it will be like this - USB\PS3\UPDATE\

    Step 3 - Transfer files
    Spoiler:
MultiMan and any other pkg files you need to install should be copied to the root of your USB. (ie in no folder)
Copy and paste Rogero_CEX-4.40_v1.03.PUP into UPDATE folder.
    Rename Rogero_CEX-4.40_v1.03.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP
    (USB\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP)
Now run MD5 checks, very important! (refer to md5 check & sums above)

Step 4 - Installing pkg files - latest multiMAN, toggle_QA etc...
    Spoiler:
From XMB (ps3 menu), scroll over to games section and click on install packages.
One by one click and install all.
First install multiMAN ver 04.40.00 BASE and so on.

    Step 5 - Dehashing
    Spoiler:

Note: Dehashing is for 3.55CFW, it won't work in CFW4.21/CFW4.30, don't worry, if your on CFW4.21/CFW4.30 you can simply skip it.
Note: Disable any spoofers, or this won't work.

Go to Game XMB and if you scroll down you should see Toggle_QA.

Step 6 - Nand/Nor backup (skip if you already have a valid backup) - Tutorial by FeintNightmare
    Spoiler:

Note: You need to have atleast one PS3 game on your HDD.
Note: If you do not, you can either FTP a game to it or you can run multiMAN, insert any original PS3 game, hover over the game and press triangle, then click on copy.

    Step 7 - Installing 4.40CFW Rogero v1.03
    Spoiler:
Make sure there is no disc in BD and that no internet connection is available.
Plug your USB to your PS3.
Then go to system update in XMB and from there select mass storage.
    Your done installing

Stealth MultiMan (optional) (tutorial partially from Deank's post)
    Spoiler:
Note: This was previously recommended for online gamers, but Sony is detecting & banning cfw users.
Note: This does not mask the cfw but rather the app itself, so at the moment there is little point in installing this because I would imagine you don't want to connect to PSN to get banned.
Note: Once you've got stealth multiMAN installed, you should update it from within the app.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    Spoiler:

    1. Can I use this on my PS3 that has any OFW above 3.55?
    Spoiler:
    No

    2. Can I downgrade my 3.56+ OFW to 3.55OFW/CFW?
    Spoiler:
You might be able to downgrade it to 3.55 using a hardware flasher such as Progskeet or E3 but you need to check whether your PS3 is capable of being downgraded to 3.55 or below.
You can check the info page on
    Code:
    http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models
Make sure you also check date codes and not just model numbers.

    3. Is 4.40CFW Rogero v1.03 stable?
    Spoiler:
    Yes

    4. I'm on 3.55CFW KMEAW or any other 3.55CFW, what do I do?
    Spoiler:
Follow the tutorial labeled 'Currently on any (cex) CFW3.55/CFW4.21/CFW4.30/CFW4.40'

    5. I'm on 4.21CFW Rebug REX or any other 4.21CFW, what do I do?
    Spoiler:
Follow the tutorial labeled 'Currently on any (cex) CFW3.55/CFW4.21/CFW4.30/CFW4.40'

    6. I'm on 4.30CFW Rogero v1.xx or v2.00 or any other 4.30CFW, what do I do?
    Spoiler:
Follow the tutorial labeled 'Currently on any (cex) CFW3.55/CFW4.21/CFW4.30/CFW4.40'

    7. Are you sure I can go straight from 3.55CFW/4.21CFW/4.30CFW/CFW4.40 to 4.40CFW Rogero v1.03?
    Spoiler:
    Yes.

    8. Some of your posts are contradictory, what do I do?
    Spoiler:
Only older posts will seem contradictory. This is because the tutorial used to be different as it was made for 4.30cfw v2.00.
Time has passed and there have been many changes.
Previously it was not safe to go straight from any 3.55cfw/4.21cfw/4.30cfw to 4.30cfw rogero, however, this changed in v2.03.
Now if you want to go to 4.40cfw v1.03, you can go straight from any 3.55cfw/4.21cfw/4.30cfw/4.40cfw as shown in the tutorial labeled 'Currently on any (cex) CFW3.55/CFW4.21/CFW4.30/CFW4.40'.
So if any of my posts contradict this tutorial, then this tutorial takes precedence.
This tutorial is kept up to date, the same can not be done for all posts.

    9. Do I need to dehash?
    Spoiler:
Dehashing is only needed for downgraded consoles but since people do buy pre-owned consoles or get them as gifts, there can be uncertainty as to whether or not a console has ever been downgraded from 3.56+.
So to avoid any problems, I've included it in the tutorial for all to do, after all it only takes a minute and whether your console is downgraded or non-downgraded, it won't cause any harm.

    10. Do I really need a nand/nor backup, and if so, why?
    Spoiler:
This backup is for people to keep for the future.
For whatever reason, if you somehow manage to brick your console, any time in the future for whatever reason, a nand backup may be needed to recover using a hardware flasher.
This is solely for people to keep in case they ever need it. If you have a nand backup already, maybe one you created yourself or one that some one created for you, then you can skip the step.
Perhaps you're familiar with the Wii Scene, if so you'll know pretty much all tutorials have a nand backup step, this is similar to that, as in the backup is not needed for the installation itself but it is always highly recommended to have one incase something ever goes wrong.

    11. Will the content that I currently have get deleted?
    Spoiler:
    No

    12. I'm on 3.55CFW, will my current games work?
    Spoiler:
Your normal unpatched games should work fine, in some cases you might need to update through multiMAN but they will work fine.
As for your patched/fixed games, some will work and some won't.
If a 3.55 fixed game does not work, try deleting game data & then updating the game.
Then if your game is still not working, you'll need to replace the eboot with the original eboot.
PSN games will most likely need resigning, check the tutorials section. Beharii's tutorial is a good one to look at.

    13. Will my current apps work?
    Spoiler:
They will most likely need resigning but keep in mind not all apps work as they should after resigning.
Popular apps do get updated for the newer cfw.
You can always check the tutorial section for resigning apps and you can check the forums for a resigned or updated app that works with 4.30cfw.

    14. Do we need to patch/fix any games on 4.30CFW like we do on 3.55CFW?
    Spoiler:
    No

    15. Are MD5 checks really necessary?
    Spoiler:
MD5 checks are to check the integrity of the files.
It tells you whether or not the file is what it should be.
Lets say I have a file on my computer that I want to send to you.
The possible errors that can occur without us knowing are during my upload & your download, aswell as during your transfer to any other devices such as a USB stick.
So if there were any problems, you'd have a corrupt file without knowing, because there had been no MD5 checks.

Now lets discuss why MD5 are of great importance when it comes to PS3.
First of all, if you skipped MD5 on pkg files & they were corrupt, then most likely you'd get errors with the app and it wouldn't function as it is supposed to. The fix in most situation would be a reinstall.
If you skipped MD5 on the CFW(pup), and it was corrupt, you will brick your PS3.
MD5 checks do not take long & it is worth doing.

    Transfer games
    Spoiler:

    Code:
    http://www.ps3iso.com/ps3-tutorials/189887-transferring-games-ftp.html

    Terminology
    Spoiler:

    OFW = Official firmware
    CFW = Custom firmware
    JB = Jailbreak

It will still be 4.30CFW v2, but it is spoofed as 4.31.
So in system info it will show up as 4.31 but it is actually still 4.30, this should protect you from updates for the moment.

If your on a 3.55CFW other than Rogero's, then you should first make a nand/nor back up (step 8) unless you already have one.
Then you should dehash (step 7). Then you should update to 3.55OFW using recovery menu.
Then follow this guide from the start.

    Jumping to Rogero's 3.55cfw v3.7 before 4.30cfw v2 is much safer.
First do the above to get to 3.55OFW, then you can follow this guide from the start.
I've heard of some people going from a different 3.55cfw to rogero's 4.30cfw, but that is not the correct method and you may experience problems.

I'm not too sure about the problem your having with Spiderman. You'll have to check after updating whether or not it makes a difference.

EDIT: NOTE: This is an old post from when this tutorial was based on v2.00. Please ignore this post.

thanks a lot for your guidance bro. is they any way to check whether my ps3 belongs to rogero or anyother becuase i bought a jailbroken ps3 which included rogero manager 8.2 for playing games so i guess my ps3 belongs to rogero but please confirm me if there is any way to check it! also if i am on rogero, do i need to make a nand/nor back up and do i need to get 3.55OFW? also if i successfully update to 4.30cfw, would it be easy and safe to get back to 3.55 if i want to update to any future cfw higher than 4.30cfw.

EDIT: I also even dont know what nand/nor back up is. please clarify this too.

    Thanks

    Thanks
Rogero Manager is a old back up manager. This doesn't mean your on his firmware. I think most likely your on KMEAW.
I don't know of a proper method to checking which cfw you have, as far as I know, you can only check the version by going to system info in either xmb or multiman.

So do step 1 to quick format your usb and put MultiMan pkg on it. You can find it in the tutorial above.
Install that using 'install package files' from games section in xmb.
Then you can do step 8 to nand/nor back up and then step 7 to dehash.
Then you can go into recovery step 4, and do a system update (from mass storage) to 3.55OFW.
From there you should follow this guide from the start.

A nand/nor backup, in simple words is a backup of your internal memory.
If you were to brick your console, you always have that backup to restore via hardware flasher.
Save that nand or nor backup on your computer.

Downgrading back from 4.30 to 3.55 is easy.
    4.30cfw >> downgrader pup (xmb update) >> dehash >> 3.55cfw rogero v3.7 (recovery menu update)>> dehash >> 3.55ofw (recovery menu update).

I might write a tutorial on downgrading from 4.30 tomorow.

edit: Sorry I just noticed I forgot to answer one of your questions from your last post regarding backing up games. There is no need to backup games, but some games (3.56+) might have been patched to run on 3.55cfw, those patched ones may not work.

EDIT: NOTE: This is an old post from when this tutorial was based on v2.00. Please ignore this post.
