This is NOT my tutorial...I borrowed it word-for-word from here:
I don't take any credit for this guide, at all...I didn't write a single word of it!!!Code:http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Downgrading_with_Hardware_flasher#PUP_to_use
I feel like this is valuable info, though, and it needs to be spread around since word has spread that a lot of people are bricking (even though it's not as big of a problem as people are making it out to be lol)
so...here you go...how to unbrick from a botched DEX->CEX conversion. If you do brick in the process going back, don't worry...it's a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY simple process...don't cry about it lol
How to unbrick from a DEX to CEX conversion
When it happens?
When doing a DEX to CEX conversion, when you're in 3.55 DEX firmware after flashing the CEX EID0.NORBIN in Multiman CEX, you shutdown the ps3 and the PS3 won't boot anymore.
This problem is related to CEX CFW syscon hashes. Follow this tutorial if you want to prevent the brick from happen
Brick sign
On boot, the ps3 console, after 5 "double beeps" very fast and turn off after 3 seconds - no video output
See an example:Code:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1OEDFOKu_Q
Preparation
- USB Dongle with the payload to go to factory mode (ex: E3 Card Reader)
- USB Pen formated as FAT32 (help if it have led status to check if its working and ps3 is doing his stuff)
- 3.55 CEX Firmware PUP with prepatched lv1 (no syscon hash checks) (i used rogero v3.4 cex cfw)
Notes:
- Use always the right USB port (next to BD/power button/eject button) for the USB Dongle and the USB PEN
- You will not have video output until step 10
On the computer
1. Format USB PEN and put lv2diag.self file 1the one that is green, also put PS3UPDAT.PUP in the root of the PEN (the 2 files must be in the root of the USB PEN)Code:http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Downgrading_with_Hardware_flasher#PUP_to_use
On the PS3
2. Switch off ps3 from power cord
3. Put the USB Dongle with service mode payload in the right usb port
4. Put power cord in the console
5. Press power button followed quickly with eject button, the console should boot, and then reboot. (if the beeps continue it's normal)
6. Remove service dongle
7. Put the USB Pen with the 2 files inside in the right usb port
8. Power on the PS3. If all went well you shall see the ps3 reading stuff in the usb pen, and the hard drive of ps3 working, wait for the console to power off.
9. Remove the USB PEN (you will have an UPDATER_LOG.TXT in the Pen with the details)
10. Power on the PS3
11. At this point you can check if the console boot up and its inside factory mode (red square box in the bottom left of the screen)
12. Power off the PS3
On the computer
13. All you need now is to get out of Factory Mode, so put lv2diag.self file 2 in a FAT32 blank USB Pen
On the PS3
14. Put the USB Pen in the right port with the file already on it
15. Power on (the console will power off automatically)
16. Power again and should be ok

+REP ME IF I WAS HELPFUL
tried and tested with amazebreak v3.0 with 20101210.bin
posted under the help tutorial aswell seems the biggest cause of bricks is when you reflash in multi man it tells you to exit to xmb and restart and install new CFW DO NOT RESTART install CFW (rogero 3.55 CEX v3.4) via system update first
another point is when doing the .self files it takes awhile and seems the machine isnt doing anything the hdd light stops blinking and so does the usb (if you have a lightup one) but then kicks in approx 3-5 mins after initial blinking
Is there any way to avoid bricking the console at first place bcoz i don't have usb dongle to recover back.

So if i don't turn off the console i will not brick the ps3 but there's also another tutorial in which u have to turn off the console after flashing with multiman and turn on the console in recovery mode to flash cex 3.55 fw here's the video of the method
And can u also make a tutorial to use the usb drive as dongle.
Thanks

use the gnpdrm pkg for a cex console, the other for a dex. put the pkg on the root of your EMPTY usb drive...plug it in the usb closer the bdd slot. install it, then run the app.

to get out of service mode, copy this file to the root of your usb (same slot) and title it Lv2diag.self....reboot the console and you'll be out of fsm.

Hey, sorry if this is redundant (I have a thread in help where I ask about this), but what is 'CEX.EID0.NORBIN'?
