does it happen only when using multiman or does it happen in the xmb as well?

    nope !!
    delete multiman first.
then install any other manager and try to play the game using it.
    best of luck !!

since it happens when you're already playing a game, this most likely is happening because of temperature issues not multiman. strange cause if this happened, your ps3 should have ylod now. try re-installing the fw, or keep the ps3 on xmb and see how long it lasts and report back

+rep if i have helped you

you will only get that message if the the system turns itself off from overheating. so i dont think swapping out psu's did anything. i could be wrong tho cause those first gen metal psu got pretty dang hot. but hey if you got it back up and running then congrats to you sir.
