Sorry if this is in the wrong section or not. I've been reading a lot of posts and what not with newcomers asking certain special questions, not going to point any out here *cough* "Is there a 3.60 cfw" *cough*. The people who ask this question-that-shall-not-be-named get screamed and sometimes cursed at for asking this. So I figured I would compile a huge list of everything a new comer should/want to know... IN BINARY :D

Just kidding. Okay so let's start with the basics
1. "Is my firmware high/low enough to hack my ps3? :D
Well here's the answer to that question little Billy. If you are on anything below, or on 3.55 you are in the clearIf you are at 3.41 then you will have a choice of using a dongle or 3.41 Hermes http://ps3.dashhacks.com/system/file...KAROTO_CFW.RAR (Credit to ps3-hacks). If you are on 3.55 than I recommend 3.55 Kmeaw Right here: http://www.ps3iso.com/showthread.php...007#post320007 and bam! (Credit to Mastershin for his thread.)
2. The inevitable question
"Well... I'm on 3.66 because a certain special girlfriend upgraded itSo can I just... you know.. downgrade my ps3? :D" And that's an excellent, yet repetitive question :o The answer to that is yes, but no at the same time. It's a pretty complicated process which is why I say no. It falls under number 8 (refer to number 8 xD) But if you are feeling like a brave newcomer, than you can find the guide here: http://ps3.dashhacks.com/node/2160 P.S. it scares me, so i don't recommend trying it xD
3. "I DEMAND THE FIX FOR THIS BRAND NEW GAME "
Now the thing about that is, we were able to crack the 3.56 game keys and so we were able to play games like Mortal Kombat and such. Then you have those rare exceptions when we get games like LA Noire where it was on 3.60 originally, and due to the developers own mistake, they were forced to release an update which made the game compatible with our firmware. And lucky for you newcomer, there is a thread which already has all of the fixes. If the fix isn't on there, chances are it doesn't exist, and you will just have to be patient: PS3 Games Requiring OFW > 3.55 | 3.41 & 3.55 FIX | ALL True Blue EBOOT PATCH (Credit to m4r0n for his thread.)
4. Issues with game
Okay now newcomer, you will more than likely have an issue with a game here or there. I have read some help threads and before you post there are 2 things you should do. 1. Make sure you put the game on internal, external, make sure you have a disc inside of your ps3 at all times. 2. Use the... Oh god here it comes.. The forbidden, the unthinkable, Googleor even refer to the help section and see if anyone else has had your issue as well. If that still doesn't help, don't post in the PS3 Games Section saying "HELP ME, 911!!!" Post it in the Help Section
5. Don't know where to put your games, or what to use for your games
http://www.ps3iso.com/showthread.php?t=60289 (Credit to Mac0707 for his thread.) My recommendation is to use Multiman, it's easy to use, from what i've encountered it has little to no issues, and all you have to do is put your games in a folder under ps3_hdd0 Titled "GAMES" (all caps) and throw your folders under there :D And it even acts as a file manager too.
6. PSN :D
Oh lawdy, almost forgot the most important question: "How do I get online with my hacked ps3? :'(" And well the simple solution is this: You can't. Think of all of this as a Star Wars movie (If you haven't seen it... No don't get me started.) You have two sides. You have the light side and the dark side. You don't have double agents in this case. Just like you can't have custom firmware, and PSN access at the same time. There was a time when we were able too, but some people who can't play online and do better than your average three year old decided using hacks would be hilarious, and some people noticed, and we lost that privilege. Chances are we won't have psn access for a long time... A very long time. Now that could change at any time, but as of now the big time hackers are having some difficulties keeping up (no offense to them of course.) Worse comes to worse, if you can't live without PSN it is recommended you either buy a second ps3 for online or upgrade to official firmware.
7. Right Sections.
I already touched on it lightly, but i'll say it again. Ensure you try your best to post in the correct section of the site. Nothing makes people more annoyed than seeing news in the help section, or I need help posts in the news section. We get it's important to you, but it's not news.
8. Ooh what does this thing do? :O
If you read a news article and think "what the heck does this thing do?" Chances are you don't need itA lot of stuff that releases on this site or others is usually directed towards the developers or hackers trying to rise from their garage, or add onto their already popular name. Usually it will tell you within the article if it does anything outstanding, people aren't usually very modest about it if they make something ground breaking. Here's a tip. If you see code like "Put x into 9283492784927 then divide by fish and equal lv2 of e=mc^2" Then it is not for you. If it says "Put the circle... in the circle slot." Then it is probably for you ;D
9. Don't make pointless threads
There are some people out there who act like people will hide their findings on the scene, not share it or anything and laugh wickedly to themselves... Okay Math does it, but he's an exception, not the norm. If somebody discovered the keys, they would be the first ones on here proudly waving it around, and ending up in jail :D So don't make threads saying "Well i'm quitting ps3 because there is no progress." Unfortunately times will get tough on the scene. Criticizing the hackers and complaining about how long it is taking is disrespectful, and it will definitely not speed up things if it doesn't just make them stop entirely (seen that happen before)
10. YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH
Yes this happens sometimes. I just read a thread ylod fix how long does it last That, in the comments section, had some quite interesting tips. I personally have never had Yellow light of death, but this is for those who have had it. If those don't work please inform me so I can take it down.
11. There is just one more thing to put.
Be part of the community, and respect everyone. Now i'm not saying stay on the forums twenty-four hours a day. What i'm suggesting is get to know some of the people, if you get help on a situation, give some reputation to the person who helped you. If you have a question, ensure it hasn't been asked, and ask politely. No one will want to answer it if your question goes "Hey yo b*tches, I want me sum mothaf*ckin games, ya know what i'm sayin'." If you follow those threads I have posted, you will easily be up to date on everything that is going on, and if you follow my quirky little tips, then you might not get screamed at on here
As time progresses I will update this for everyone. This is not intended to be mean or anything in any sort of way. Also if there is something that hasn't been covered in the thread. Please feel free to message me or comment so I can add to the list :D
