    Default PS3 help!!

Well my friend gave me his ps3 to fix and so far having no luck.

When i got the PS3 it was stuck on a loop trying to update stopping at 70% everytime, i tried a new harddrive and i can now boot into recovery mode(Only way i can start it when i turn it on it turns it self back off) when i try system restore it formats the hdd then screen goes black and it powers itself off and when i try to do a system update with the firmware on a usb stick i get "A serious error has occured. please contact technical support for assistance(8002f281)"

What i originally thought would be an easy fix has turned out to be a nightmare, also just so you know im not a noob when it comes to repairing computers, consoles ect...

So if anyone has some suggestions to maybe help me with this nightmare it will be much appreciated.

BTW its an old 40gb fat console

Normally when the update stops around 70% it's because the keys don't match the firmware. What version is it on. And what version are you trying to install?

    i also had this problem

turned out the bd drive was faulty

the only way i could fix it was by downgrading to a firmware with the bd drive skipped
and then updated to CFW with the bd drive skip too

if your 100% your drive is working you can try the bd re marry trick
