Thread: After i download a new game, how to play the new game with a external hard disc?

After i download a new game, how to play the new game with a external hard disc? How to connect with my ps3??

1 Unrar the game you downloaded till you get the game folder , something like this : BLES12345, BLUS34567,...

2 Make a folder called GAMES ( in capital letters ) on your external

3 Put the game in there ( BLES12345,....)

4 Plug your external drive to your ps3 with the usb connection

5 Start multiman and play the game

Ps Which game did you download ? ( Some can't be played from external ), what custom firmware do you use and what's your bacupmanager ( multiman, rogero, gaia ) ?

I am downloading some games for the first time as well!

Hopefully somebody can help out :D I am using Multiman:


- So on the external on the root should it be PS3 > Games/Gamez?

- What about games that have multiple parts? I am downloading Sly Trilogy which has 24 parts? Should I arrange the files like PS3 > GAMES > Sly Trilogy > 24x files?

- Are there any problems with using a hard-drive with files already on it? If I can get this to work, I will invest in a specific hard-drive, but at the moment I am using one that is storing back-up files from my PC. Is this ok?

- How do you find out what games play form internal/external? Is there a list?

No problem, the folder must be indeed GAMES or GAMEZ

What do you mean by multiple parts ? Do you mean parts ending with .01, 02, 03.... ?

The external hard drive must be in format FAT32 , it's not a problem having other files or folders ( backup ) on your external drive


This is how it should look like on your external : on the root of your external : GAMES -> BLES12345 ( this folder, which is the game folder id, you get it after unrarring with winrar or another unrar program you will find in that BLES or BLUS folder 3 other folders : PS3_GAME, PS3_UPDATE and PS3_DISC.SFB )

You just need to put the game folder BLES12345, BLUS34567,... in the GAMES folder.

By the way, the game Sly Trilogy must be put on the internal because it has a file larger than 4 gb and these kind of files or not supported by fat32, the games must be transferred to the internal drive of your ps3, check this tutorial out http://www.ps3iso.com/showthread.php?t=45836

No if its in parts like most downloads you have to extract then with a software like 7ZIP, download 7Zip and right on the RAR file (part one) hit 7Zip and Extract it

After having a read, think the best thing to do will be to get the files to my internal HD.

Yes, the file comes in multiple RAR parts. But what do I do after I have extracted them all?

Following the tut on transferring to internal HD, I have a few questions..

- How do I arrange the extracted files. Just place everything into my GAMES folder? Will the system work the rest out? Or how should I arrange it?


The tut says I need to put my PS3 into Jailbreak mode to install the FTP server and Backup manager.

- Is multiman my backup manager? Therefore I do not need to do this step?

- To install the FTP do I put it on my USB, start it up in system recovery and then install like an update?

GAMES/GAMEZ goes on the root then BLES or BLUS=>PS3_GAME goes inside that. Not PS3=>GAMES/GAMEZ, if that was what you were saying.

My mistake i corrected my last entry its GAMES/GAMEZ=>BLES/BLUS=>PS3_GAME so make sure it has the right BLES/BLUS name. Ill look up the correct path for that game.
