Thread: Ps3 Won't Read Discs

Hey guys just bought a ps3 fat that won't read discs for 20 bucks and after a lot of searching and reading I would just like to get your guys opinions' on everything. Do you guys think its worth it to try the recovery mode trick, anyone actually fix their ps3 doing this? Also, anyway you can tell if its the drive itself or just the laser not reading discs? What recommendations do you guys have? Also, anyone have a cheap site to get drives and lasers off of, I checked eBay but that's about it. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Just jailbreak your PS3 so you don't even need to read discs

play your games from hdd and stream your movies from PC or from hdd too

($20 ??? .. lucky bastard .. I'd buy 5 of them for that price!)

Yea I was lucky Ive modded some 360's and wii's for people I work with and this guy just told me he had a fat ps3 laying around that wont read discs and was like 20 bucks and you can have it so it was a no brainer, I read a lot of games can't be played without a disc in the drive? Im obviously talking about just ps3 exclusives I can just get any other game for the 360, but I appreciate the response that is probably what Ill do I just have to order a minimus board. +rep

this is what i did on mine it was the laser i opened it up and turned it on and supposedly when you turn it on the laser will blink or flash. and mine didnt !! but the drive wont spin if the laser is not working when the laser blinks then the drive spins the disc. you know what i mean

so you have to take it apart enough for it to work
