Thread: question (help needed) with PS3 40gb

hello,
i recently acquired a PS3 40gb system

Some specs:
Console: CECHH01
Region: NTSC-U

the story behind it is that, my cousin was playing a shooter game
and asked for an update 3.20(?), i believe, and when it was going to update
the console shut down and displayed this error:
"Correct Hard Disk Not Found"
he would restart it to no avail a few times, till he gave up, and evidentially
handing it over to me.

i found some guides online and so far have been able to get to the restore/update
page. i downloaded the most recent firmware, put it on my flashdrive (fat32), and began
to try and update the firmware.

now, the system began to install the update, but now has been stuck on 99%
for the last hour or so..
i don't know where else to go from here..

anyone have any ideas or solutions to my issue, any help would be greatly appreciated,

update:
i was able to successfully restart the ps3, and go to the restore menu options, i did a ps3 restore and got to the initial setup screen, although
now stuck at the last step of the setup, the rotating clock looking icon
came up and is still rotating, but nothing has happened yet..
been at that screen for about 20 min now..

update:
the ps3 was turned off by a family member and now it wont load at all, no way of getting
to the restore menu, the power button technique wont go to it.
although i did restart the console without a hard drive and it started up, so i have reason to
believe it's a hard drive issue..
any comments/info greatly appreciated

Therefore that would lead me to believe that you either need to re-format your HDD to FAT32 via your PC or buy yourself a new HDD if re-formatting doesn't work

i was ableto to get it to work,
i took apart my old 20gb 360 harddrive
and was able to get it to load..
with time of course i will upgrade to something
bigger, but for now, as long as it's running
is perfectly acceptable..
