About to buy a PS3
I've brushed through the tutorials a bit, but I'd feel safer if I was answered outright.
1. Are there any definite negatives to the phat PS3's? Besides YLOD?
2. If I bought a slim, would it still be CFW able? Rather, what firmware would the newest systems come with?
3. Could I still patch games without PSN, or would I have to live without patches?
Thanks in advance,
Love, Bedskills <3

1. No, i don't think so.
2. Probably not... The newest systems will come with the latest firmware (4.00)...and you won't be able to downgrade it in order to install the cfw !
3. what you mean?
''LeBron is the best player that ever stepped on court''

overall i would recommend a slim ps3,maybe if you're quick you can still get a hackable firmware.

1. YLOD is the common problem faced by phats and other than this there are no problems
2. You can hack any ps3 either phat or slim that comes with a firmware 3.55 or less. Look for CECH-2XXX series since they are likely to have 3.55 or less(not all of them)
3. You cant patch anything on firmwares above 3.55 unless its a retail patch ie. from sony
+rep if i have helped you Assassin's Creed Collection: http://goo.gl/jI7dR

Guys wait up, actually there is a major problem with phat 40gb, their blu-ray drive is very bad. When I wanted to buy my first ps3 the retailer told me not to buy a 40gb only for that reason.

If you want to be more informed about the scene, check the ps3devwiki

If a game were to have a patch, for example Skyrim, would I be unable to get the official patch? Sorry for the noobness, home skillets.

what do you mean by official patch?

I thought patches were released for games i.e updates on the PSN?
