Default just got an 80gb system for free, how can i play ps2 games on it?

A friend from work hooked me up with his old 80gb fat ps3 that he says he doesn't need anymore because he got a brand new one. I took him home to check the firmware and just my luck... 3.55! As far as I've always known, 80gbs were one of the last ones that were backwards compatible, but it was done through something like emulation. i know there was something you needed to download through PSN to get it to work, but with psn being out of reach, is there a way I can download it offline and get it to work? or better yet, is there a backup manager that will allow me to read ps2 isos from an internal or external drive? I know there was a ps2 launcher that was released a while ago, not sure if that would work though. this is my first time owning a backwards compatible system so i'm really not sure. just looking for some info.

Man, you have been blessed for sure. I believe the cobra dongle is what you need.

the only downside is that the disc drive doesn't like to eject games *derp*, but i think the cobra dongle is an investment that must be made

To know IF your console is Backwards compatible - check the number of the USB ports.
    4 ports - BC, 2 ports - not BC.
My 80GB has 4 ports, and is backwards compatible(though, I have no need for that backwards compatibility), but some of my friends have 2 ports, and their consoles aren't.

yes i think you can use swapmagic on it too , this will be your best option i think if you plan on using a tb too since the 2 fw's are not compatible, this way you can have tb fw and use the swapmagic for your ps2 games ,or you can wait and see if a cfw that supports both dongles comes out or if one of them is cracked ,this is what i am waiting for , as i have an 80gig 4usb model too , that and a nand clip version of e3 flasher that was promised
