Need to confirm something with CFW
hi ive been out of the ps3 modding scene for quite some time just logged in here now and to the last of my knowledge you couldn't go higher than 3.55ofw in order to install and run CFW for the ps3 which in turn effected what games you could play and not due to updates.
I hear of a true blue and dongles? does this mean their is a way now of running higher ofw but still play as a cfw system enabling you to play games that required updates?
Thanks guys

yes true bluew dondle let you play games from 3.7x or highter on a ps3 running 3.55 CFW TB or Rebug TB edition

Thanks for clearing that up and were can i get hold of a true blue dongle?

You are right, currently the higher version for CFW is 3.55 (well 3.56 if you consider JFW).
If your PS3 has 3.60 or higher, you can downgrade to return stock FW version using special hardware (ProgSkeet or E3 flasher).
The True Blue dongles (aka JailBreak 2 or JB2 or TB) are used to play games that require 3.60+ on JB PS3. They need the dongle and patched files. So, only the patched games are playable with TB. At the moment of this post, the official site listed 54 patches. The True Blue dongle requires the CFW: True Blue "3.55-Dongle" Custom Firmware or REBUG 3.55.2 TB EDITION.
There is also the Cobra dongle, that has a different function: it enables the PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3 backups in ISO/Folders. At the moment of this post, it doesn't enable 3.60+ games.
Some games that require 3.56+ are playable on CFW 3.55 without any dongle using patches/fixes. eg. Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, inFamous 2, L.A. Noire.

Thats making more sense now wow their has been a big development then since i was doing it. Luckily im on 3.55 which ive got cfw running and some games wont boot due to updates. The cobra one sounds like a good dongle but cant you already play ps1/2 games of an emulator installed to the ps3 with 3.55? if so then probs the true blue is all i need but if not then would probs get both dongles

if your game was working before, just delete the Game Data (not the Game Saves) and your game should work again.
Use multiMAN 2 to get updates. It doesn't download game patches higher than your FW version.
You can play PS1 backups from CD. Cobra enable to play PS1/PS2/PSP backups from HDD. For PS2 backups you need a B/C model. It enables the PS2 on non-B/C models, but compatibility of the PS2EMU is very low.
