PS3 works on a normal TV in 480i SDTV resolution mode.

Well, you'll have kinda "soap" like graphics, but yes, PS3 works with non-HD TVs. Though, I'd advise to get a PS3/Wii VGA cable and use a monitor instead.

games dont look good on sdtvs. If you plan on getting ps3 for sdtv then dont get a vita and wait until it gets hacked:D

Using a PS3 with AV cables looks like crap, if your TV can support component cables I would recommend you use that with your PS3 since that won't look so bad on a non-hd tv.

although I haven't tested it personally, I've heard of several sdtv owners saying that hd games look blurry especially with regards to text which can be unreadable.

i say both, because with the vita, you can transfer your ps3 games to it and play the ps3 game on the go. a gamestop employee told me this. he did his research

Yeah youre right with that, it will just give you headache and low attention span to the game when its not on HDTV, i prefer getting vita first, and ps3 when you already have HD tv..
