Thread: Be aware when buying a new PS3

Iv been to a store called Makro (Now owned by Mass Mart) here in South Africa and cant seem to find a new unit thats on V3.55 or lower. Even the 120Gb units are on V3.56. I see that Sony is starting to take action cos the guy at the store told me that they recalled all their systems for a software update.

soooo you cant even buy used in stores and hope its 3.55 or less?

The stores only keep new. I did see a store called Game that had refurb 80Gb units but those units were also sent back for a software update thats on V3.56.

I knowe S0ny planned to recall them for software updates but I never heard of it actually happening, until now.
I don't see how S0ny could ask for preowned units to be sent back tbh but stranger things have happened.

I tink the store was over stocked with units, hence the call back on the 80Gb. What makes things even worst, we pay like almost double the price as wat url guys pay.

i ordered a ps3 slim and it had 3.60 on it so i returned it and bougth a combo pack with LBP2.
If u wanna be sure to get 3.50 ofw then buy a official bundle with the bundle box with game in one, i do see some bundles being sold like black ops but these are packs where the games are added, make sure u have a box like the LBP2 bundle ps3, that had 3.50

Or buy the PS3 on ebay knowing that the firmware is 3.55

ask to reserve new consoles that come in with <3.55 firmware for you.

Killzone 3 and the Black Ops bundle have 3.50 fw, I've had friends get both versions and cfw on for them.
