Thread: PS3 Game Size

I've noticed that some PS3 Games like Madden, Civilization Revolution, Apache Air Assault and a few others are smaller than their Xbox 360 versions. Apache is like ~2GB on PS3 but is close to 7GB on Xbox 360?

Does anybody know why this is so? I would think that PS3 Games would be much bigger since blu-ray discs can fit more in them.

the xbox game is about that size also if you took the files out of the dvd, like you do on the ps3, backedup games on Xbox are the whole disc, the games on ps3 are the ripped files, if we had to use backup up games like on xbox all ps3 game would be 25gb or 50gb,
just because the disc is 7 gb the game does not take up the whole disc there are a ton of junk files on them

I think this is covered somewhere but..
360 games are on hd discs so the structure is different
360 isos go on dl (dual layer) dvdr's, Ps3 is bluray.
360 uses padding / dummy files to fill out that structure.

Definitely! Also I believe the 360 will only read those dual layer DVDs with the layer break at the correct spot, and it must be filled up if not with the game data with dummy files

How does this explain when PS3 games are bigger, way bigger, than the xbox version.

All the ps3 exclusives are very large. I imagine it's because those games take advantage of the ps3 and the blu-rays capabilities.

It is because the videos of the large games are rendered in 1080p and not 720p like 360 games.
