    Default What is DEX or CEX and is it reccommended?

    Hi. Sorry for my stupidity but I've seen everyone talking about DEX and CEX, and that all games work on that... thing. I don't have any clue about what is that. Could you please explain detailed what is it? I've been searching for information but I cannot find an explanation...
    My PS3 has CFW 3.55 from Kmeaw and I really want to play new games. Is it reccomended to install that thing?

    Thanks guys!! and sorry again for my ignorance

    CEX = retail console

    DEX = developer console

    you can play most 3.6+ games on DEX if they have a official update.

    If you have a NOR console then you should go ahead convert yours to DEX, follow light year's great and simple guide: http://www.ps3iso.com/ps3-tutorials/...tml#post661529

    If you have a NAND console then i suggest you dont do it becuase its more complicated and increases the chance of gettting YLOD on your ps3

    CEX is the retail software that almost every PS3 uses (Kmeaw, Trueblue and official firmware are all CEX). DEX has always been around but recently a way was discovered to switch to it, and is a different type of firmware used by developers to create content on the PS3. The benefit of DEX is that you can upgrade/downgrade whenever you want so you can go from 3.55 DEX firmware to 4.20 DEX firmware easily. This means that on 4.20 DEX all retail Bluray disks are playable as a way to launch new games, you can still play all older backups on 3.55 DEX. The cons of switching to DEX are that to play new games you must update to 4.20 DEX, have a separate external hard drive for the games just for new releases (as it requires special formatting to launch the games) and new games will only work if they have an official update, which several games do not. Playing the new games on DEX also requires using your computer to switch games every time you want to play a new game. Switching to DEX or back to CEX can also be risky and may result in a brick, although you no longer need Linux to switch. Personally with the release of Trueblue games by Duplex team and the 3.60 keys leaked switching to DEX isn't worth it at this point unless you really need to play a game such as Sleeping Dogs. All new games will work with DEX but only with the disks,new backups always need an update.

    Ahhhamm, alright so I'll stay quite on Kmeaw. I've also seen people say that games only work on external (not just new ones). e.g. LA Noire only runs on internal.
    The only game for which I'll do anything to play would be Resident Evil 6.

    Thank you very much!

    ** BTW I don't know what's NOR and NAND lol

    Nor or Nand is a flash memory!
    You can find all ps3 model which have nor or nand on this page: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models

    Check the model no of your ps3 to know which one you have.
    If you have a slim, then its a NOR.
