Thread: final fantasy X will not be a remake

I know there was a bit of speculation about this title and the possibility that we would see a complete remake of it, but sorry, this is not going to happen.

This past September, Square-Enix made a surprise announcement. Even though fans have been clamoring most for remakes of past Final Fantasy games like VI and (especially) VII, the famous RPG developer and publisher revealed that it would instead by working on a re-release of the PlayStation 2-era RPG Final Fantasy X.

Final Fantasy X HD will be coming to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, Square-Enix revealed, though details about the game itself have been virtually non-existent.

However, we now have a little more clarity on just what Final Fantasy X HD will be. According to Andriasang, Shinji Hashimoto, a famed Square-Enix producer, confirmed that Final Fantasy X HD is to be considered more of a "remaster" than an outright remake. These comments came from the Taipei Game Show, where inquiring game journalists wanted to know more about the mysterious game-to-be.

As Andriasang points out, "Remaster refers to HD updates like ICO and Shadow of the Colossus rather than full remakes."

Nonetheless, if Shinji Hashimoto is indeed working on Final Fantasy X HD, there's reason to be optimistic. Hashimoto has served as producer on classics like Front Mission, Final Fantasy IX and Kingdom Hearts. He's also served as executive producer on titles such as Tobal, Tobal 2, Einhander, Ehrgeiz, Front Mission 4, Final Fantasy IV Advance, Final Fantasy V Advance, Final Fantasy VI Advance, The World Ends With You and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.

So there you have it, a 'remaster' not a 'remake'. Shadow of Colossus looked good when it was remastered, ICO didn't do as well, really showed it's age.
Still, FFX HD should look alright on my Vita

:D I love the Titles and played all almost and would play it, but only those from ps2 Hd remastered or a remake.

I would rather see all the older titles given a makeover, from FF all the way to FFIX.
Make all the older ones 3D like they did with III for the NDS and iPhone and just tidy up the graphics on 7, 8 and 9. Nothing severe, just update them so they look OK on hdtv's when running in HD, that would be awesome.

My dream is to play FFVI with graphics like Lost Odyssey, to me that would be the perfect game.

I think exactly the opposite of your idea, because instead of wasting resources on these titles to remake them from the scratch, they should just give upscale and re-release. It worked on MGS, GOW, RE, Sly, Jak and Daxter and many other games.

And think that there are some really but really stupid people amongst these developers and game designers. They will only screw up our gaming experience with better graphics, soulless gameplay. It'll be so bad, you'll want to play the original one on your ps3, but since they released a total remake, they will not consider releasing the original on ps2 classics. So you'll end up with another FF that you don't want.

I don't really know what your talking about. I said that that the older games in the series - FF to FF6 should be remade in 3D to look like FF7 did on PSX (it's sort of what they did with FF3 on the NDS and iPhone and it worked really well) while the rest of the series on PSX - 7,8 and 9 - just need the graphics tweaked to look nice in HD.

What they did right was to get a company called Matrix Software to remake the game, so the graphics were overhauled while still leaving the gameplay essentially the same as it was on the SNES many years ago. Now if they did that to the series from FF to FF6 it would be great.


And just update the graphics of 7,8 and 9 to look as good as Lost Odyssey does (which isn't a huge leap) while leaving everything else the same.

Any Final Fantasy fan would drool over this, especially FF6 getting an update.
