Default Gave up on Portal 1

After trying to beat this game for years I finally gave up and deleted it from my hard drive. Can't get past the last part of test chamber 18. I've watched youtube videos and tried it countless times but just can't beat this level. Any one else had a hard time with this game?

I remember this one part of test chamber... 17 I believe? Where you had to jump and turn pretty fast to place a portal so the "light ball" could hit the switch in a large room... thats like the one part I struggled a bit with the game as it felt more as a reflex-based puzzle with an obvious answer than a thought-oriented puzzle with simple but effective gameplay mechanics like the rest of the game. I'd recommend trying to finish the game as it's challenges once you finish the game are tough but smart and rewarding.

The ending is one of the most memorable experiences I've had this generation storywise speaking, along with it's superb sequel Portal 2 (which tops this already awesome game at all levels), MGS4 (obvious reasons, arguably the best game on the system) and the surprisingly clever written borderlands 2 which is a damn awesome FPS-RPG on it's own so the story it's a nice plus.

I agree, it's rewarding in the end and if you can get past the chapter 17, I'm sure you'll eventually get past the 18th.

I replayed both Portal games this week. Glorious games, possibly even the best this gen. has had to offer so far (Uncharted is the other competitor).

I'm shocked you can't even get passed it after watching Youtube videos. I mean I can't see the logic there at all.

I guess my reflexes with having to open portals at the right time just ain't there. I've tried for a couple of years and just gave up in frustration. I'm not gonna even attempt Portal 2.
