Converting CD Games to DVD for ESR use
Note: You CAN NOT boot CD based games with ESR unless you rebuild them.
This is mostly a copy/paste from the official ESR forums. (Less some fixed spelling problems and updated links.)
Note: The links lead to "Let me google that for you" search results.
Tools Needed:
Imgburn (Freeware)
Cdmage (Freeware) (Only the first and third site mirrors work)
Dummy File Creator (Freeware) (See tutorial on site.)
DVDScan/DVDScan Lite v3.7 (Freeware) (Can't find homepage)
Code:
http://sharebee.com/b877c3e9
1: Generate a image of the disc with imgBurn, imgBurn is free you don't need NERO, because if something goes wrong you can have a LBA reference for LBA based games. Keep copy speed low to avoid errors since MODE2 discs has no space for error correction.

2: Open the image with cdmage.

Right click track 1 and select "Data Track Properties" and take note of this info:

3: Select all files and extract to some folder.

4: Use DVDScan/DVDScan Lite v3.7 and patch the files.
Make sure you select DVD

And set this options
If you don't know what to patch, select all files and if you hit this screen just select No

Do not select folders scan files only, than go inside any folder and repeat the procedure.
You should see some info like this.

5: Create a dummy file.
This is necessary, your image must have at least 1.4GB in size or the game will not boot with or without ESR. If you are using ESR and do not use the dummy, ESR will stop at a white screen and with some old mod-chips you will get some errors along the game play.
In matrix infinity chips some games will stop at a black screen.
The extracted files has 500Mb in total so we must generate a 1Gb dummy file, name it something like z.z because this dummy has to be the last file in disc.
6: With the dummy in place is time to generate a new 2048 sector UDF/ISO9660 ISO file.

Select the folder where the files is at, set the destination for the ISO and set this configurations.

Remember the info I asked you to take note of, it's time to use it, don't ask me why but some games will not work without it, official SONY tools also add this info. You can use CAPS here.

Click at the button to generate the image, you will see a pop up like this.

It's asking if you want to use folder or files to be in root, we want files so select YES.
You may get a screen giving you the option of naming the disk (If it had no Volume Label in step 2)

Just click NO to leave it blank
In the next pop up make sure the file system is ISO9660, UDF (1.02) and has more than 1.4GB.

7: Now is time to patch the ISO with either memento's DiscPatcher0.9e or ESR Disk patcher.
8: Burn it with imgBurn.
Original tutorial says to burn at "lowest speed possible" but I burn at 6x and have no problems.

Sweet tutorial. This ESR thing seems pretty widespread in it's use. I'm sure alot of people will appreciate this.

Arucardo, thank you, I'm a learner where I need pictures to know what's going on!

at the part that you say to take note, copyright file NAMCO LIMITED i get a pop up saying that i can only use a-z 0-9 in this field, It worked when i writed NAMCOLIMITED together, but it might have been the reason the game did not worked.

The "NAMCOLIMITED" part is only for the game used in the example.
You want to take that info from your iso not the info posted here.

after making dummy file and on the next step towards making the next 2048 sector can u specify what folder and files im am going 2 use for this step got a little confused...does it include the .bin and .cue files or just the folder where i extracted the .cue files and the dummy file?...please help want 2 play ICO and Marvel VS. Capcom 2...

After you extract the files from the bin/cue/iso/whatever that file becomes useless and you can trash it.
All you want is the extracted files.

so I got the game ICO .bin and .cue files. Used CDimages to read it and extracted the files/folders in it onto my computer. Then I used that DVDscan thing to scan all the files and files in the folder. Then I used ImgBurn to create a image from files/folders and i chose those files then the foldes and the dummy file i renamed to z.z(1gb). Made an ISO out of those then patched with ESR patcher but when I put it in my PS2 it runs the sequences (the colors) ends with light blue(as it would with other games) and then just black screen? I've tried to use different ESR elfs to boot it still same problem. So I must have done something wrong with rebuilding the image file. In this example the game doesn't have any folders which is easy but for ICO a folder calls "DFDATAS" which contains a file calls "DATA.DF" which according to DVDScan isn't a system file. When I create the image with Imgburn do i just choose the file in it only or should i choose the folder? Do I need to DVDscan the z.z dummy file? I've already wasted 2 dvd for this game and it still not working. Here the structure of my ICO disc after burned:
...
DFDATAS
DATA.DF
IOPRP224.IMG
LDUMMY
LIBSD.IRX
MCMAN.IRX
MCSERV.IRX
MCSERV.IRX
PADMAN.IRX
SCUS_971.13
SIO2MAN.IRX
SNDN2DRV.IRX
SYSTEM.CNF
z.z

Sorry for the late reply.
1. When the file is in a sub folder add the whole sub folder.
2. The dummy file doesn't need to be scanned because the game doesn't read the file. It's just padding.
