Default Best way to play ps2 back-up?

I know there are many methods to playing backup games for the ps2 but which one is the best way or generally more favored way of playing ps2 back up?

Swap Magic, playing off a External Hard Drive, though some sort of ethernet cable connection, or something other way if you guys can mention.

It's a toss between OpenPS2Loader and ESR. OpenPS2Loader will allow you to play games via a HD (internal or external) and/or streaming them from your PC. ESR is great for loading via DVD.

I think that with the newest slim models, swap magic is the easiest way to play backups. There are only 2 sensors that have to be blocked and then you're good to go.

I really strongly suggest playing off a harddrive.

The big reason here is that it reduces load times significantly.

I draw attention to suikoden 5 and tales of the abyss where playing from the disc has annoying 10 second wait times when battles commence whereas playing from external has less than 2 (maybe even 1).

but if my ps2 is the really old fat one, the one with the network adapter in the back of it, is it still recommended to play it with a external hard drive?

I read but i'm not sure that the old ps2 can't run games well on the external hdd because they're usb slots are like ver 1 not the standard usb ver 2

My brother-in-law hasn't had any issues with using an external HD with his fat PS2 system.

It is preferable to play with a standard hard-drive, but yes external is still a lot faster than playing via DVD
