PS2 16mb Memory card question/help
I recently bought a 16MB memory card as my 8MB memory card was almost full. I copied/transferred some of my saved data from the 8MB to the 16MB, about a dozen save datas I think. Then I noticed that 16MB memory card still has about 20 mb of free space left. I came to realize that the 16MB memory card I bought was actually 32MB (although it says 16MB in the label)
I just though it was just labeled wrong I considered myself lucky. However, the Battle Trophy from my game Star Ocean: Till the End of Time save data was corrupted.
My game save data is working just fine though. I tried transferring it back to my 8MB but still it says that the data was corrupted when I tried to load it in game. (Also note that, supposedly, you can not transfer a battle trophy data from one memory card to another.)
Well, the heck with it I thought, I'll just create a new battle trophy. So I started a new game, created a new battle trophy data from the 16MB (I deleted the old one beforehand) and went on and played the game. I've been getting a few battle trophies and saving it. Next morning when I tried to load the battle trophy data it was yet again corrupted. I stopped saving the battle trophy data in my 16MB and use the 8MB instead (and no more problems)
After some time I decided to play Xenosaga 3. I loaded my old save file from the 16MB card (which I copied from my 8MB card) without any problems. But since it's been a while since I played this I decided to start a new game. So, I did, until I reached the first save point and saved. I have my old save file at slot 1 so I saved at slot 2. It save fine or should I say the game said it saved sucessfully. But when I reached the second save point and decided to save the new save data I saved at slot 2 was gone! My old save data from before (at slot 1) was still there though. I decided to save yet again on slot 2, save successfully, exit the save screen, but when I returned to check and try to save again the new data was gone again. Tried on slot 3 and 4 but same result. The new save data is still disappearing.
Should I discontinue to use this 16B memory card. So far these 2 games are my only problems. The save data from my other games is still, at this moment, working fine.
Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance for the reply.

There are quite a few memory cards out there, mostly made in china that are terrible. Sounds like you may have one of those.

I have a few of theses 16mb cards. Some games just don't like them. One card I have corrupts entirely on certain games. For games you have to put a lot of time in I would stick with the sony card. The most reliable 16mb cards I have found, are the Datel Mega Memory cards. I have never lost data off one of these. There are some games that don't work with them, but they don't corrupt the entire card, they just don't save.

Backup your savegames and format the card using your PS2. It's not good that it has more memory then what the label says. Reminds me of the hong kong USB stick scam. Altered USB sticks which claims to have more memory, 32 Gb stick which only had 4 GB of memory overwriting the files all the time.
PS1 PAL
Backup Method: Modchip
PS2 PAL
Backup Method: ESR, FMCB, HD Loader
PS3 PAL
Backup Method: True Blue V 2.5, MM 4.02
