Codebreaker Reviews: Vampire Night
Ah, Sega's Vampire Night. A House Of The Dead knock off.
This rail shooter came from the same creators as house of the dead, so I figured that this would be amazing. So, is this game worth a buy, a rental, or a steer clear?
You play a pair of vampire hunters on a quest to destroy the head vampire, just known as "The Vampire". That's just what I've gathered from the cutscenes of the game, considering that they never really get into the story, so there's really no reason to bother paying attention to it, right? If you do decide to get into the story, you'll be confused and want to throw the guncon at the TV for the story being so laughable.
So what about the gameplay? You just want to shoot the hell outta things, right?
Well, that's just it. It's really easy. Like, 2 run-throughs-on-an-off-day easy. The enemies really don't surprise you at any moment, and since every enemy has a "sweet spot" that you can hit to deal major damage, this game becomes lacking on challenge, real quick.
The mission mode attempts to justify it's replayablity by offering items such as "credits + 4" , "Life + 6", "Shotgun", Etc.....but when you've beaten the game countless times WITHOUT those said items, then what's the point?
If you have a guncon2, and want a new game to toy with for a couple of days, there's no problem with Vampire Night. If you're looking for something deep, and with some replayablity, then you should look elsewhere.
So why was this game such a disapointment? These guys have had AMAZING rail shooters and then screw up with this one. Tsk Tsk, Sega. Should have signed with sony instead.
