I am a Swap Magic 3.6 user who needs to play The Doctor's FF XII IZJS already patched with ESR. So I am new to this FreeMC Boot thing.

With what I've read in the threads, I've come to understand that I need to put a software in a USB which in turn will pass it to my Memory Card.

Now, which one is better for that game, Free McBoot 1.8b Noobie Package (latest version, I guess) or your USBAdvance ELF?

Btw, my PS2 is a slim PAL one.

Even if it's patched with ESR, Swap Magic should still boot it.

Yes that would be FMCB; you could either burn the uLaunchElf cd version, then install the Noobie Package from your usb, or see the Swap Magic install tutorial here, along with the FMCB files. It will install the files on your MC, so the option to boot ESR will appear in your PS2 menu. I think the first option is a lot simpler.

FMCB only boots software... I guess if it doesn't work with swap magic then your 2 options are really ESR (part of the FMCB Noobie Package) or USBAdvance. With USBAdvance you don't use the disc so it's worth a try, but a game like FFXII might run slow on it.
