    Default Led Changer v1 – A PS3 LED app

Developer deroad has released another small app called Led Changer v1. This app will allow you to Change the color of your system’s LED power light. It is a small app but fun to test. So give it a test and let us know how it goes.

This is a simple led changer.

this will change the led color and if it is on mode on/off/blink and it will keep it on that mode also on the XMB
for example now my ps3 has green and yellow together while blinking

settings for hardware like leds are usually controlled with the kernel....does this guy have the kernel source??? custom ps3 kernels would be so cool!!!

Is this the homebrew Kakaroto is hoping for? No wonder he's so hellbent on it.

I'm kidding. I love these cool little apps.

usually yes, you would need btldr access, but there have been plenty of cases where the btldr wasn't cracked or opened, and people have still been able to inject custom kernels with just a btldr exploit. When this happens the custom kernel will not remove or replace the original kernel, but rather send a command to the btldr to tell it to kill the original kernel immediately after it boots, and load the custom kernel instead. This means you would most likely see a flash when the console starts up. This would signify the official kernel being shut down and your custom kernel loading. On an android, for example, the manufacturer's logo that you see at the very beginning of the boot process is the kernel's load screen. If the bootloader has been unlocked, you can replace this graphic since it's contained within the kernel code. If the bootloader is just exploited, you will see the manufacturer's logo, then another custom logo, then your boot animation. Since PS3 has no kernel logo, you would just see a flash until we get full bootloader access.

Now, having said all that, I'm not saying for sure any of this is a fact for this specific case...I'm just saying USUALLY you would need to do this via kernel mods. Hopefully this is the case here, and we start seeing mods like this more & more. with an unlocked bootloader, custom kernels, and full hardware freedom, we could make this console do herculean tasks!!! Overclocking the cell and rsx would be my #1 & #2 wishes
