Sony prefer that Insomniac remain PS3 exclusive and teases big reveals In a candid interview with Sony exec Jim Ryan, he revealed some interesting bits about the company’s relationship with second party studio, Insomniac. He teases that there are some big announcements that will happen this year as well.

In an interview with OPM, Jim Ryan revealed that he would prefer if Insomniac could remain exclusively second party to Sony. This is in regards to Insomniac’s plan to develop Overstrike with EA. This would be the first game the studio would be developing across the Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously.

He said, “In an ideal world would we prefer them still to be working exclusively on our platforms? Yes, probably.” Ryan added, “We’re still friends… The strength of our internal studios at the moment means it ain’t the end of the world by any means.”

He also had some great things to say about Sony’s internal studio, Naughty Dog.

Very, very proud. When you look at the critical acclaim that Uncharted 3 got and also the number of units that are selling it’s just great. Having a developer like that to showcase our platforms, exclusive to our formats is really, really great.

Ryan ended the interview with a big teaser stating that there is some big stuff coming near the end of next year. He also revealed that some of it will be revealed in the coming months.

There’s a bunch of stuff at the back end of the year – I’ll just tease you with this because I not going to tell you what because I can’t – which I’m very excited by, and you’ll hear about [it] over the coming months. [It'll] give you plenty to write about.

With the Spike VGAs around the corner, and a teaser indicating a major reveal of a new PS3 exclusive at the show, this could very well be what Ryan has been hinting at.

Of course they would love it to be exclusive, because their the ones who make their main games pretty much, if they go multiplatform, there goes pretty much majority of sony's 1st party exclusives.

The "majority " , my ***. Thats so not true. My guess is they want them for the quality and relationship they have.

Insomniac only thing I liked about them is Spyro, and Ratchet &/or Clank series. Resistance looks/feels like a good game, but it doesn't seem to grab my attention. Now there is Overstrike and just by doing some reading on the game it doesn't grab my attention. So IMO Insomniac should stick to making one good Spyro/Ratchet game every year. Alternating between them, i.e one year Ratchet one year Spyro.

just because insomniac is thinking about going multiplatform doesn't mean Sony will lose exclusives...they never mentioned porting ratchet or anything....they just said they'd like to start developing for other platforms.

....and while I'm thinking about it, spyro is out for wii and has always been available for Nintendo products.....so they are already multiplatform It sounds like they just want to expand to MS's next console & PC

they don't make spyro games anymore.
though one thing I commend them for is the level of graphic design they put into their games.

insomniac only made spyro on the PS1 after that it was developed by activision. that's why I can't play eternal night, I have a Wii but I really don't feel like using that style of controls.
