Thread: PlayStation Team Loses Two Key Executives

PlayStation's team in North America would appear to be in flux. Veteran Peter Dille left his post earlier in the year, replaced by Guy Longworth back in October, and nowIndustryGamers has learned that two key members of the executive team have parted ways with Sony: VP of Marketing Scott Steinberg, and SVP of Publisher Relations Rob Dyer.

Although one of our sources claimed that Steinberg was let go and escorted out by security, an SCEA spokesperson confirmed to IndustryGamers that Steinberg resigned from the position. A replacement has not been named yet, and we don't yet know where he's headed. Steinberg joined SCEA back in 2007, and prior to that he held a VP role at Sega of America. He's also worked with Eidos Interactive and Crystal Dynamics, and outside the games industry at Roxio and Liquid Audio

SCEA also confirmed to us that Rob Dyer has left the company. There's no replacement yet for Dyer either. We've discovered that he's joined social giant Zynga as the Head of Partner Publishing, although we've yet to hear back from Zynga to receive 100% confirmation. Dyer had previously served as the President of Eidos from 1998 to 2004 and President of Crystal Dynamics from 1994 to 2000. He joined Sony in 2008.

Dyer will always be remembered on IndustryGamers for giving us one of the most provocative interviews ever, when he told us, "publishers are getting the living crap kicked out of them by Microsoft."

If you want to be cynical, you could speculate that Sony's looking to shake up its team, which has been handily beaten by Microsoft this year in the US. During Black Friday week alone, Xbox 360 sold nearly a million units.

360 isn't easier to hack cause you are messing with the drives while on the ps3 you only install a mere update .PUP.But it sells generally more cause the hacking scene is more improved and stable to be more precise

Also its funny how none of the sites are posting sales info on the ps3 sales during black friday. Not like the ps3 did bad or anything, it was sold out completely every store in my area.

Where does he state it is easier to hack a 360? No where

He was simply stating that if the ps3 was hackable to play the newest games then sony would sweep up the sales.

I could care less anyhow if the xbox is hackable still to play the newest games infact I can do it I used to do them up until a few weeks ago so no probs for me any drive.

I just refuse to buy that over rated ancient piece of junk that people call a current gen console.

Yes the ps3 is old now but come on its still like 100 years ahead of the fail box 360.

The only reason M$ sells so many units like that during the holidays is:

1. 360's crap out easier then PS3's. (luckily mine is still going 2 years into it's life... you shouldn't have to consider that lucky though...)

2. People like to have spare 360's around for when one either craps out or if they get a console ban.

Take all these people out that buy 4-5 consoles just to have extra's and M$ would be a lot worse off in sales. There is not to many people I talk to that don't have at least 2 consoles because of one of the things mentioned above.

You sound like a damn fool. Talking about the reason xbox 360 outsells ps3 is because people have spares. Haha! The reason the xbox outsells the ps3 is because of xbox live and xbox 360's better service. I have both systems and enjoy both but when it comes to online gaming there is no comparison. See people (includinding sony) thought just because of thier name they could release any games and treat customers anyway they want because people have always been fond of the playstation name. Now people are more cautious with thier money and opt not just for the name but the best bang for thier buck. That bang happenes to be the xbox 360 whether you like it or not. Better online play and community. Patches and fixes daily. Rewards for customers. Kinect for kids. LASTLY they dont sue people for hacking thier system. So stop making excuses of why the ps3 is behing the wii and the xbox 360.
