Thread: Naehrwert releases a 'ThanksGiving' Special for all PS3 Developers

Good things always happen over the 'Thanksgiving' weekend, tons of 'shopping' deals, and lots of good food, and wonderful time spend with family and friends, well a bunch of PS3 developers decided to spend the weekend coding and brainstorming, and the end-result is this nice set of 'Thanksgiving' treats for everyone to enjoy and share over the up-coming months before the next big event at CCC in late December!

Gift number #1, is a package called FRIDAY and released by Naehrwert one of the main team members behind the original PS3MFW Builder project!

This is a POC for a isolated spu binary. Generate a self encrypted+signed with the metldr keys out of friday.elf.

Then use friday.h to write a PPU application that loads the self by utilizing metldr and DMAs your console's EID2 to the shared SPU LS.

It will generate the P and S block from it, that is used to pair the BD drive to the specific console.

You can then DMA the blocks out from the LS and send them to the drive to remarry it to the console.

Communication with the SPU is done over in_mbox and out_mbox. MSG_OUT_* is send from the SPU code to out_mbox.

MSG_IN_* should be written from the PPU to in_mbox.

When MSG_OUT_READY arrives the PPU should DMA the EID2 to EID2_START and send MSG_IN_READY.

When MSG_OUT_GEN_DONE arrives the PPU should DMA the blocks out from BLOCKS_START and send MSG_IN_DIE.

Note: this is UNTESTED but should just work

Now all the above is very techie for most people, but basically it is POC that should be able to re-marry your Blu-Ray drive, without using those crappy leaked Sony tools, and going into and out of service mode, and hopefully without loosing your Blu-Ray movie playback in the progress. -- Very nice step forward for all those with semi-broken PS3's!

Next we have a new SCETOOL that so far is only useful for SPU versions of .SELF's, but it is step in the right direction in better exploring the internal firmware of a PS3!

And sweet thanks naehrwert, going to check some of these out in my spare time.

This naehrwert release is actually some quite big news. He's planning on releasing a few more things that will help the scene move along nicely. There are also rumours of 'keys' to be released soon. He has come up with a novel way to hopefully fully restore BD Playback to those with Nand consoles who lost it whilst downgrading and has mentioned other tools that no else has released yet.

Someone else had posted these extracts from Pastie yesterday and all i saw was a load of people flaming away and shouting for the thread to be closed. This demonstrates quite clearly that certain people here have actually no clue what they're talking about. I'm looking at certain newly formed 'team' members....
