Sony again confirms it's looking into charging for PSN

Sony's Peter Dille has gone on record recently to confirm that Sony are indeed looking at subscription based models for the Playstation Network. Up until now, the philosophy has been to make it all free, but times might change in the future. Maybe a longer answer to a shorter question, but I think there is just tremendous improvements to the PlayStation Network, which leads me to your last question: will we charge for it or why don't we charge for it? It's been our philosophy not to charge for it from launch up until now, but Kaz recently went on the record as saying that's something we're looking at. I can confirm that as well. That's something that we're actively thinking about. What's the best way to approach that if we were to do that? You know, no announcements at this point in time, but it's something we're thinking about.

It is prob for the party chat and stuff to get that you will have to pay... The key is how much will it be because i would not mind paying if it is like xbox live.

I hope that IF they charge, it is for access to additional better content. PSN HOME is lame, I would NOT pay for that. The news (or whatever) on FOLDING AT HOME is extremely limited or not even updated - I wouldnt pay for that.
So they would have to make it attractive to get me to join. And I am not opposed to pay for access to something decent. I think XBOX LIVE content is worth the yearly subscription (before I got banned)

Are you getting Valentines Day confused with April Fools day maybe?

If they charge for PSN,they should only make the new subscribers pay because I just bought a ps3 but if they make it that you must pay to play online I'll only play offline on my ps3 but I'll play online on my wii.

I cant seriously imagine it being more than £5 or $7/mo and if people cant come to terms with the fact they are gonna have to pay for such services then they really are tramps :P

They should have been charging along time ago. Playstation Network lags behind Xbox Live greatly. I like my PS3 but I miss Xbox Live's features.

If they charge for it... great. If you cant afford it... too bad
If you cant afford to play Xbox 360/PS3 Online, get a Wii
If you cant afford a car, get a pair of shoes
