Syndicate. FPS. Banned in Australia.
A sequel to the 1993 DOS game.
Set in 2069, Syndicate takes players into a dark, Machiavellian world run without government oversight with many syndicates vying for total dominance of their local market place. With no one to question their intentions or actions, three mega corporations – Eurocorp, Cayman Global, and Aspari – are at the forefront of this brutal war for control of the pivotal American market.
In the world of Syndicate, everything is digitally connected, including the people. Players aren't limited to the weapons in their hands. Through DART 6 bio-chip technology implanted in their head, players can slow down time and breach the digital world around them to take down their foes using a variety of upgradable hacking mechanics. Syndicate's blend of fast-paced, futuristic, action shooter settings and story combined with innovative chip breach gameplay instantly immerses players in a unique digital world.

Refused classification in Australia
According to the Classification Board report, the fact that enemies and corpses "can be explicitly dismembered, decapitated or bisected by the force of the gunfire" was a major problem.
Civilians can be targeted also, but cannot be dismembered. The report did, however, note that in cooperative gameplay "points are awarded for civilian casualties."
The report concludes:
"In the opinion of the Board, the game contains intense sequences of violence which include detailed depictions of decaptitation and dismemberment that are high in playing impact. The game also contains the ability to inflict repeated and realistic post mortem damage which exceeds strong in playing impact. It is therefore unsuitable for a minor to see or play and should be Refused Classification pursuant to item 1(d) of the computer games table of the Code."

Hmmmmmm..... a futuristic thinking mans shooter that looks like a cross between Deus Ex and Half Life, with 4 player co-op AND it's been banned in a country.
I WANT IT!!! It's the first FPS that I've been excited about in a long long time.
I like the fact that you can make people commit suicide just like my Mum used to, she was a crappy psychiatrist........

AND it's been banned in a country.
Don't get too excited about that. Australia has banned a lot of games or has had them severely gutted and altered to be released.
This game did sound like something I'd enjoy when I first read about it. I like games that are pushing the boundaries on what is "socially acceptable".. Movies have depicted men, women and children being tortured and abused for decades.. Why is that when I push a button to make it happen suddenly it's "wrong"?

Australia never got Mortal Kombat as well.. Gotta suck to live there when it comes to vg censorship.
This game looks pretty good. I'm just getting back into fps. So I might check it out.

If governments were so concerned about people's well being trying to shield us from what they think can do us harm, they should give up governing people. They cause more harm just doing that than any movie, game, tv show, CD, porno movie/magazine ever will.
Especially for the guy that lost his job, home, family, car, pets, life savings, 401k, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. because of the bad choices the governments make.

LOL, when I used to run a gaming store back in the days of the PS2, XXX BMX was banned in Aussie but sold in NZ, and we sold a $hitload of it, all because of the hype about it being banned.
The last game to be banned in Aus was House of the Dead Overkill, but SEGA got the decision overturned.
Censorship confuses me. I can play Soldier of Fortune and scalp people and blow off corpses limbs with a shotgun
that's OK to the censors, but if I see a nipple in GTA4 then my head will explode, so they save me the pain and cover them with tape?! WTF to that.

This brings up another valid point of why some people pirate. If your government is going to control and block what kind of entertainment you obtain (even as an adult) then that just adds fuel to the piracy fire. Excellent!
