SCE’s Jack Buser Talks Exclusives, “Invested More in Our First-Party Studios than Nintendo and Microsoft Combined”

It’s no secret that Sony’s robust lineup of exclusives is second to none, and much of that can be attributed to the company’s emphasis on acquiring quality first-party developers. Sony’s Jack Buser recently spoke out on the importance of such content to the PlayStation brand, attributing much of their success to exclusive content.

According to IndustryGamers, during a panel at this year’s CES, Buser went so far as to say that Sony’s investment in first-party developers trumps both that of Nintendo and Microsoft combined.

We have a 15 year heritage of investing very, very heavily in the PlayStation platform. We have actually invested more in our first-party studios than Nintendo and Microsoft combined.

We have a tremendous catalog of game titles that are second to none out there, and now with PlayStation Suite and PlayStation Network the ability to deliver those experiences across so many devices and even potentially across third-party devices is an incredible competitive advantage.

Buser then went on to take a few jabs at Apple, saying:

The PlayStation philosophy has always been about our third-party partners and our ability as a games industry to raise all boats together as partners. We’re not like some other game platforms that say ‘Hey! Put your game out here on the App Store and maybe you’ll be one of these 10 featured apps if we feel like it right now, and then the rest of you guys can all go out of business.’

Or some other platform owners who are saying, ‘Look, we’re gonna make all the great games and if you guys can maybe make a great game on our platform, good luck but we’re not going to help you much.’ Or some other guys who say ‘Hey, we hand-picked you and we’re gonna shove a bunch of money in your pocket and the rest of you guys can all dial the 800 number and try to dial through to the front desk.’

We’re all about our partners, our publishing partners, we always have been. If you talk to any game publisher out there, and you mention the word PlayStation, they are going to be very, very loyal to our brand.

Sony’s ongoing commitment to provide PlayStation owners with fresh and exciting exclusive content is one of the biggest draws of the platform, so it is encouraging to hear that this will remain a priority for the company in the future.

1st class bull**** here. Ive not played a single game on the ps3 that's ps3 exclusive that id bother playing through again

Money doesn't equal a good system or game.Intelligence, risk taking, creative ideas etc does. You can't polish a turd no matter how hard you try

So because they invested more money in HD games (this is kinda important because HD games cost an order of magnitude more than a comparable Wii game), that means what? That their games are better? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! C'mon SONY, surely you can do better than this??

eff this guy! he should have also said sony exclusives are just ran through and quickly put down for good while nintendo's exclusives are always being played over and over even generations later (super mario bros, zelda, pokemon, mario kart, starfox, smash bros series anyone?) . sony has some superior hardware and some good exclusives but instead of inflating their heads with air they should realize nintendo blows them out in sales for a reason. The Heart of a true gaming company for the whole family beats hardware specs any day!

That's what I thought. Surely, Playstation did have some great games and all, but! even if they are great and all - their greatness is for only limited circle of people, while family games are the same for everyone, and are feeling same for nearly everyone.
That's where Sony loses to Nintendo.

also, it isn't news if it is the opinion of someone who is wrong and has no idea what they are even talking about...

They might mean psn ps2 classics and hd collections (I hope they do), because since they're not doing that much exclusives, they should at least give us the good old collection.

The exclusives are what made me pick the PS3 over the 360. I've played some of them many times, too. I think their exclusive games are really good, even if some are not my cup of tea.

cant forget about the metroid, kirby, starfox, punchout and f zero series as well. he's kinda right about xbox but still, how dare this guy try to take a dump on nintendo...

Sony exec guy seems a bit butt hurt or something. Nintendo spends less and sell TONS more. lol
