Default Laptop DVD/CD Burner Problem [Help Appreciated]

Best way to clean a laptop BD/DVD-RW Drive?

For over a year now my BD/DVD-RW Drive has refused to burn discs, I always either get an "invalid medium" (When the disc is fine (Maxell 16x DVD-R or RED label DVD+R's).

It never reads/burns CD's, usually always reads DVD's. On restart of computer I can usually get away with 1 successful burn of a DVD and after that it won't do anymore and keep getting errors.

Now, a couple of months ago, I used one of my mothers very fine art brushes (and I mean ultra fine) to clean the lense.

That did the trick! Atleast for a week or two. And then it stopped working again.

Please can someone give me the proper advice? solution? I'm sure the proper way of cleaning it is cheap and right round the corner.

any dollar store will have a disc cleaning kit. the good oneswill have a disc with brushes on it and some liquid. Put the liquid on the brushes, listen to the instructions ("please skip to track x") and you're done. This worked very well for mine. I had the exact same issue.

Or try: cotton bud and alcohol 70 %. Not to wery wet, with a gently touch. first: with the more alcohol. And second with more dry alcohol, and last with no more alcohol ( just the cotton bud it's self)

Thanks, I'm a bit dubious to use one in the chance it might make it worse. But I'm not left with many options so will probably go with this option and see how it goes.

If the disc cleaning kit fails I will try this as a last resort, as I've heard pure alcohol can actually destroy the lens. Thanks.
