    Default Western Digital Hard Drive adapter replacement

    I have a western digital mybook 160GB
    Power Supply:
    * Input: 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 500mA
    * Output: 12.0V(12,0) 1500mA

    I have a Duracell 1 Hour battery charger adapter.
    Power Supply:
    * Input: 100-240V AC 50/60Hz 25W
    * Output: 12V DC 1.7A

    The output amps on the battery charger adapter is a little over.
    Can I still use this?

    Your replacement stopped working as well? (How long?)
    What is the status of the Hard drive and replacement adapter now?

    it wasnt a hdd, it was a usb extention for ps3. it needed a external power supply for it to work. i used a power supply from one of my kids remote control cars. worked for about a month, then just stopped working. so i would say wrong voltage will not work

    The issue is that the WD has a MAX of 1500ma and the adapter is 1700ma max. This means that the amperage could POTENTIALLY blow out the resistors if there were some significant power fluctuation.
    However, if you plug the adapter in to a power strip with surge protection it should be fine. If you have an adapter with slightly lower amperage than 1.5 then that would be better, but again, surge suppressing power strip should work just fine for you.
