Thread: hard drives

i have a powerspec 4988 iam trying to add a third hard drive to it it already has two 7200 rpm drives 163gb and i trying to put a 40gb drive in it will that be to much for the motherboard the pc has a pci wifi card and a case fan the psu it 350 watts

could someone please respond

It's not a good idea to go with under 400 if you're going to use 3 HDDs.
Having said that, it will work. It will shorten the life of the PSU, but it will work.
Your biggest power consumption will be on spin up. Once it's in windows ahci will take over and there will not be as much of an issue. So if you do go with this, then you should leave your computer on instead of turning it off. (edit the power settings to reflect this also and just power off the monitor (physically) instead of shutting down.)

remove both 163gb hdds and dont put in the 40gb hdd
just buy a 1tb drive and replace those old hdds you got
