Default What to install : XP or Windows 7 ?

Hi, I need some advice here since I'm a mac user and don't know anything about windows. My parents laptop is a sony vaio dual core ( 32 bit) T2310@1.46 ghz with 1014 of Ram and windows vista is installed but it doesn't work well so i'm thinking of installing xp or windows 7 ( I prefer windows 7 ) but I don't know if the laptop is capable for windows7.

Any help is appreciated and also perhaps a link from where I can download windows 7 or windows xp. I checked the download section but there are so many versions I really have no clue which one to download.

    Thanks

These are the system requirements for windows 7:

    1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Technically, your notebook does fit all of the criteria for installation. However, it all JUST fits. This means that while it will install, it will not run optimally. If you're just going to be using it for low level stuff, like surfing the net and such, it should work fine for you, but a tech with years of experience, I would recommend installing XP.
If you are determined to put 7 on though, I would check the drivers and make sure that they exist for windows 7. (there are hundreds of programs that will do this: everest, speccy, unknown device identifier.)

good luck whichever way you go.

(And as far as which to download, you want the x86 version (32 bit) not the x64. )

If your laptop runs Vista, then it will run 7, but yeah XP does get the work done at a lower expense.

If i helped you, some +rep would be nice...

maybe not everyone likes linux? just like not everyone likes to only eat bread and drink water everyday...

p.s. with those specs it depends what u do on ur computer...cause if its playing games or running ur pc like a 2 dolla ho...with music internet, msn, other msn, torrent, downloads and other running at the same time. u might wanna use xp lol

if u do normal people stuff like internet and music and limited amount of msn windows...windows 7 is ok

p.p.s don't be a ho...limit the amount of windows u got open...just cause u CAN have 20 windows open at the same doesn't mean u should >.<...also don't complain if ur pc is slow when u got that much junk open.... this is from exp with friends >.>
