Thread: PC random freeze ! Please HELP !

Hi! I have a PC :

M/B : Asus P4P800-VM
CPU: Intel Celeron 3.4 GHz
VGA: ATI Radeon HD 3850 / 512 Mb AGP
Memory: 2 Gb DDR
PSU: 450 W
HDD: WD 1200

This PC has been working for me for 5-6 years ( 24/24 ... sometimes it shutdown for an hour or two ).... I do not remember exactly. About 2 months ago it started to freeze and not boot when I restart it. I have checked all that can be checked .... Changed CPU , Memory , VGA , everything.... it keeps to freeze randomly and do not start. It can start up after 15-20 min after it froze . Everytime it freezes I just reset CMOS ( jumper near CMOS battery and remove CMOS battery for 10 mins ) and in 10-15 minutes it starts with no problem. But it can freeze anytime .... I have even reflashed M/B bios ( latest 1018 ) and nothing helps. If someone would suggest me anything?

I'm assuming your pc had a clean formatted & cleaned parts (don't ever underestimate THE DUST: )
just try...
1. change all of your cables (sata/ide/even power)
2. clean & re-new your thermal pastes (both cpu & gpu) & dont use too much just 1 drop is enough
3. start with no-gpu card
4. start with just one ram on & if problem continues change slot + trry other one too
5. change your power

I have already done all this. The PC is old but I have cleaned it and now it looks like brand new - shiny ( I am vaccum cleaning my PC and my PS3 and most of electronic at home once in a month so my electronics at home without any dust and shiny clean) . Changed thermal paste on CPU ( Arctic Silver 5 ) too and its still freezes randomly. Changed all cables , tried different slots for RAM , tried without VGA , tried with internal video , changed all cables, tried different CPU ..... It may work 2-3 days without any problem and suddenly it freezes and that starts - I have to clear CMOS wait 10-15 min and restart. Wile it starts it can freeze in bios too ... Checked HDD .... No bad sectors and errors.. Checked RAm - no errors at all. The temp of VGA and CPU about 40-45 degree .... I think its normal.... What else could be suggested to do?

i had a problem with random freezes and reboots and it worked for years without problem just like u.
the thing that worked for me was a problem with agp. hd3650

install rivaturner, make sure it boots with windows , go in card config and set agp from 8X to 4X and save the profile, it should work, since then i never had a problem.

with me my pc crashed alot depending what i was doing, video editing , games play videos.

now all gone

oh yeah and be very very careful with vacuum your pc because it has lot of static electricity that could mess up pc hardware

have you changed the CMOS battery??

Yeah! I have changed CMOS battery to brand new one . It freezes randomly even on BIOS setup . I tried to use it without video card ( used internal video on motherboard ) the same problem - so I think its not because of video card. Tried different RAM memories switching to different RAM slots - does not help ! Only if I reset bios by jumper then remove CMOS battery wait about 30-40 mins it may start . It starts anyway , fans move , but no beeps and no start. Tried to change PSU - the same problem! I just do not know what can I do esle?

PS: just now it froze again. Booted up normally . Started windows. Tried to open google chrome and open web site and it froze. :(((((

Read my post i had same prob as you had prob for a year and rivaturner fixed it all

RivaTuner wont help as I do not have problems with my HD3850 .... Because my PC freezes even without video card. So video card is not freeze reason.
