Thread: how do u split a movie into files

i have jackass 3 bluray and i already converted it to work with the ps3 but idk how to split it into files so i can upload it here for you guys to enjoy

Get mkv2vob and load your movie into the program then go to configuration and choose usb stick to split the movie.

Just google "mkv2vob" and download it.

If you use windows or mac I can't help you, so use google.
Here's the best method (in my opinion).
Install lxsplit (already in synaptic, so you can use sudo apt-get install lxsplit)
You can split and join the movie by issuing the commands in the terminal;
Split: lxsplit -s file.avi 100M
This will split the file into .avi.001, .avi.002 and so on.
Join: lxsplit -j file.avi.001

If you don't like using the command and you want to use a graphical software instead, you should try out avidemux.

I use this method:

Get Winrar, then select all of the files you want (the movie, maybe a sample etc). Right click them and click 'Add to Archive'. Put in the name, the location where the files will be put and the size in the bottom left of each part. I use 400mb per part for Filesonic. If you want 400MB in bytes, it will be 400000000. That will create split files of around 387mb i think, but will be fine as free users can download these.
