Thread: Secure Protect or Backup Data before Send Laptop to Sony

hi,

plz anyone know how to secure the content of my vaio laptop before sending out to sony for a repair?

the repair is hardware related and no need to get in but you never knows


i have lot of private stuff/warez/business and can't deleted them.

is it possible to just use some strong password for login or is there anyway i can backup the whole laptop, then reformat, send out and restore when i get it back?

Buy an external USB hard disk and move anything you don't want found to it.

Agreed. Use a bootable disk like Hirens or norton ghost or something and create a disk image if you want to keep the system files/installed programs. otherwise, just copy straight to usb. the more strongly you encrypt your drive, the more likely it is that they'll just wipe it out.
And do a factory restore before you send it back too, if they boot it and see illegal software then you will get prosecuted. (seen it happen)
