If you don't see a FMCB boot screen, then you have a Mod chip and from the sounds of it, you have a Mod chip that doesn't play PS1 backups. For that, you would have to look into the settings of the mod chip itself by bringing up the mod chip's menu.
Just a little background, the PS2 was bought around 8 years ago. Here in the Philippines, some shops actually offer to mod them so they can play backup games. So I have no idea what type of modification was done.
model: SCPH-39001
region: NTSC U/C
other info: It runs ps2 backups normally...like how it runs original ps2 games. Also, I tried running some ps1 backups, they don't run (but those backups run on a modded ps1)
Is there some way of finding out which mod was done? Or at least some way to narrow down the possible mods that was done

how do I bring up the mod chip's menu?
after searching a bit and trying out some stuff, it appears that my ps2 actually can play psone games. though it doesn't boot when i click the disc icon in the browser menu, it plays when i press the reset button twice
Yep. That's the trick to a Mod chip. LOL
Tried that, but there's no menu.
After doing a little research, it's probably a Mars1 or Mars2 modchip (According to some Philippine forums).
Thanks to all that helped![]()
No problem. Glad to help! :D
You probably have one of the MARS chips! I'd say MARS1 but could be the 2nd. Edit: I missed your last post! You appear to be right!
