Best modchip for a v18 ps2?
hi every one does any know whats the best modchip i can get for my v18(90004cb) ps2 my swap magic cd & dvd r starting to fail on me and i would rather chip my ps2 then buy the swap magic again cause the cd/dvd would probably fail again + i would be able to play dvd9 games on it. i can get a modbo 4.0 for about 8€ or a MATRIX INFINITY 1,93 for 11€ but dont know if they work in a v18 or which is better. so can someone help me?
thx.

well i would tell you to just run fmcb with OPL (openPS2loader) but it looks like you have slim v18 with bios v2.30 which blocks total access to fmcb. nonetheless you could buy swap magic 3.8 coder and use it to load homebrew like uLaunchELF and then boot OPL.
you could preserve the laser in your console by playing games from an external usb storage device or over LAN with OPL. you would just use swap magic to use OPL.
now, unfortunately matrix infinity, crystal chip, and some other genuine PS2 modchip have been discontinued. you'll just see clones of them in the PS2 mod-chip market. the best matrix infinity clone is the modbo chip but there are even clones of modbo LoL.
if you must get a chip then i would recommend that you get a genuine Duo 3 ultra chip or DMS3 (not dms4 since it has much a higher heat output) chip. **stay away especially from apple and any type of solderless chip as these will indeed fry your laser and cause painstaking damage to the mechacon chip (RS2006EFV chip). soldering a RS2006EFV chip is not easy.
google mod-chip.biz or mod-chip.com
