@Kailey283, Given the three models you have mentioned, there's just only one you might be interested in. The one with CECHE01. Its a PHAT PS3 w/nand. If you're on 3.55 firmware and below then its your lucky day today! If it's 3.56 above you might consider somebody to do the downgrading job for you as this not going to be simple. It involves a special hardware flasher (progskeet v1.2 recommended) a lot of wirings, 52 points more or less to be soldered directly to the board, E3 flasher dongle or amazeBreak, a flash drive, a cfw (custom firmware) and a lot of patience:-) The 3001 specially the 4001 can't be downgraded yet due to no hacks (hardware or software has been developed yet) I'm new to the site as well but an old time console modder. Consolex basically said it all. The only "moddable" ps3's are those running 3.55 firmware or even those downgradable to that.
It's going to require hardware in each case if you want to jailbreak past 3.55. There's a new hardware called cobra ode that is about to get released allowing to play backups on latest ps3 models. I would suggest to check out the ps3devwiki website anyway to know about the base firmware of your first ps3 if you're interested in downgrading.

Welcome. I'm sure u will find this site amazing, with lots of important information and interesting thing 2 know about.

Take your time 2 read a lot b4 doing anything at all, read the forum's rules and enjoy.

As ConsoleX mentioned, u have 1 model that can b jailbroken: CECH01 ( originally had 3.15 FW-firmware).
There's another 1 with a CECH3001, wich originally had 3.56 or 3.70 FW, but 4 this 1 I'm not sure 1 can install anything custom'ish' firmware on that 1, but you can read about it: try CFW 4.21.
From the CECH01 you can always go back 2 lower firmwares ( but not below 3.15 - OFW), but if u R actually on something higher than 3.55 OFW u will need 2 spend some money on a E3 flash card, or ask someone u know 2 lend u 1 4 a short period of time. I'm pretty sure there's no way of downgrading OFW without that device ( or other similar devices).

Yes, us country. I live in oklahoma. Sad for me all my consoles currently have 4.31 ofw on them. Thank you all for the welcomes. =) So out of curiosity, where can I obtain one of these hardware flashers, and is it really worth all the trouble? Thanks. I will definitely look into the wiki. Also, i have broken down the official 4.31 firmware, but only got it down to .pkg files. Is there any way to extract, or see what is in these files? I have only seen one site showing the pkg in C. I have some knowledge of C and would love to get into those files. Thanks for you help. After all is said and done, I just might have to sing a country song =)

You can get aldo's tools. They come in any FULL version of multiman and with those you can see what's within the pkg's and extract files. E3 flasher:

1. There are two well known flashers, E3 flasher & Progskeet flasher.
The E3 flasher is not compatible with nand PS3s, only with NOR PS3s (which is most of them).
The Progskeet flasher is compatible with both nand & nor.
The E3 flasher is a solderless flasher.
The Progskeet usually requires soldering unless you purchase the solderless attachments seperately.
From what I've read, there seems to be more info surrounding the E3 flasher & the process seems easier.
Out of all your PS3s, the only one which is downgradeable to 3.55 & below is ceche01, which as ConsoleX has pointed out, has a nand chip.
So the only reputable flasher that will work with your PS3 is the Progskeet flasher.

Word of advice: You might want to stear clear from v1.2, a lot of negative reviews for that one.


3. Is it worth it? Well the matter is subjective.
Weigh up the cost & benefits & make a decision.
If you don't want to go through the hassle yourself, pay some one else to do it for you.
CFW is awesome, that is for sure.


4. I've no idea how to totally strip the FW.
I've been able to view & extract the FW PUP but can't open the pkg files using the normal tools such as pkgview.
I've only been able to open the files using a hex editor (HxD).
Do some reading on PS3DevWiki, you'll probably find the answer there.
