Thread: this site is very backwards categorizing news

when ever i feel like checking the scoop on the scene, i come straight to our news section but im beginning to rely on other sites more because all the news here is being sent to different thread corners of the earth and a lot of the time people wanting to share end up re-posting the same stuff cuz the original post was sent to a random section one would never think to look. when every other ps3 scene site has a specific story posted as news it seems once it ends up here it has to be posted in the ''god knows where section''. the point im trying to make with that is everybody cant be wrong. heres a couple prime examples of the backwardness im used to seeing around here...

one would think on a piracy themed ps3 hacking site all ps3 game fixes are news worthy as we can go months without seeing anything nowadays. at least more news worthy than the opinion of a man that obviously doesn't play games. but thats just me i guess. thanks for taking the time to read what i had to say.

that's the thing about this site. there is little distinction between the contributions of more experienced users and newer ones.
it makes the site great for discussion but it's not as good if you want to get quick accurate news. (there's few people that want to release here due to the image that would give them)
it's one of the many great things about the site. we operate as a kind of archive for all of the things happening with the PS3. though the news is there if you look through the sections, or in "new posts"

I've asked in the past if we could get a separate news section for general stuff that's not PS3 related. We're using the General Chat for that type material right now.

the second post that i used as an example isnt even remotely close to being news to anyone that knows the definition of news. stuff like that should be in general chat with no doubt (but here its in the news). my point was why does the scoop on the the latest ps3 apps, patches and game fixes get banished to random sections when they really should be reported in the news section like every other ps3 scene site does? even the non piracy sites like psx-scene, ps3crunch e.t.c know to report all ps3 scene releases, developments and even game fixes that they dont support as news. I hate having to go to other sites to get the scoop as i remember the good old days when this site was more efficient categorizing news instead of me having to go through 5 different sections to find what should have been reported in the news section. i can easily just go to a competitor's site and see it on the front page without the unnecessary hassle u guys impose with your current system but it shouldn't have be that way. If stuff like jack's opinion is in the news why do i have to go elsewhere to find out that paradox released 6 new games?

Well I'll tell you what's happening. First of all, apps/pkg (such as Multiman/showtime...) belong to the PS3 Applications AFAIK, because at some point in time Deank would release an update every week (sometime less!) that it clobbered our news section and since it was minor update it really wasnt much of a big news. Still when a breakthrough happened, such as say, DiskBoot or others, that's news-worty in my opinion.
Also I have advocated before for that the News section is for 'Scene-only' news, but then the Admins came and stated that it's called Playstation News section, so anything pertaining to Playstation franchise (PS3, PS Vita...) and the company itself, ofc the hacking/modding community and all belonged in there. So that's news as well.

Finally when duplex first released some PSN games, it was news worthy, but then as games came along it became also clobbering the news section so it was decided that new Duplex releases are not news-worthy. Same goes for True Blue AFAIK. When True Blue gets an update, fine, but when there's new eboot-fix...meh. That's my point of view anyways.

1) agreed that multiman, showtime and stuff like that belong in applications unless its a major update or if it hasn't been updated it in a while so our users know that the devs are still alive. Dean did disappear for a while up until recently and a lot of people were concerned about that.

2) In a perfect world, The second Example thread i used should be under ps3 general chat as It reported no new Info previously unavailable before. If he was giving us a inside peek of final fantasy 14 development or something like that then yea i would understand it being labelled as news as the info he would have disclosed would have previously unavailable before. therefore falling under the definition of ''news''. Remember, the root word of news is new.

3) dude this site is called ps3iso! all game fixes are precious news worthy info as we can go months without a new game being playable on cfw. Unless of course you have a secret venomousx cfw that doesnt require you waiting for game fixes that your not telling us about lol. Im sure u already know that even the non piracy sites that dont touch piracy with a 10 foot pole know to report game fixes as news. One would think stuff like game fixes, ps3 patches, app devolpment and cfw is what the ps3 news section should be for on a ps3 hacking site. Especially on a piracy based, all in one stop for everything ps3 site.

@mariano: what I meant is: fixes for big-games is yes news, but if Duplex was to release 20+ games in like 3 days (they did at first) and having several threads appear each time a new bunch came along, it was getting out of hand and ppl presumed more game will be released like that. I dont disagree they're not news, it's just the way it was handled/repeatetly posted that was problematic. That's all.

hypothetically speaking of course, if I released a dongle free playable eboot for either mw3, beach soul res, portal 2, or really any other 3.60+ game previously not playable to most ppl on cfw, you are saying our users would pretty much have to wait till they check out a competitor's site news section to find out about it? the game bar on the top is merely a added convenience that its not updated frequently enough to rely on for the scoop on games. besides fifa 12, none of the links are clickable up there anyway. Besides, people would want to know how i did it, did i exploit a game update? did sony screw up again? Did i get my hands on a Sony SDK and manually port it over to 3.55 myself? e.t.c.

In that case each time they release a game or batch of games then that should get a shout in the news. For a bad example, If they release pacman, spiderman, batman and superman on thursday then they should be a single news post letting us know about them releasing pacman, spiderman, batman and superman on thursday. If the next day (friday) they just release barbie's horse racing adventures then they should a separate news post on friday letting us know they picked up from yesterday and gave us another game. surely almost none of us would care about a crappy game like barbie but i would still like to be informed about it just off the strength that i have young girls in my household and the fact that I always welcome anything the devs give us whether I'ma actually use it or not. We do get our games in bunches at times but we do also endure long periods of nothing so a shout in the news when they finally do come is more appreciated than not having it there at all . Also if they were in the news section, more people would see it, know it already been shared and therefore avoid most of the double posting sending them to random sections causes.

I think you got Popman wrong, besides, those titles up there get updated until post-fix-release, meaning they dont usually display new(est) games. ANd I do agree on your second point, if it was for me i'd make the same thread with an [UPDATED] and change the title to match

Besides, nothing will stop people from double posting news/articles. Sad truth lol. I agree with you tho, news is news!
