What hardware do you have? Do you have the network adapter and an IDE hard drive?

    Can you boot backup discs?

You just need HDLoader or HDAdvance and WinHIIP.

WinHIIP is used to transfer games from your PC to the HD, and HDLoader will access your HD on the PS2 and boot the games. The best way to do it is to boot it from the MCwith FMCB, this way you never use discs.

ah I see i've read about FMCB, I have to put it on my PS2 memory card right? but I'm not sure how I would exactly put it on there though. is there another way to do it without having FMCB on my ps2 memory card? unless my only option is to buy a ps2 memory card adapter but they go for a pretty high price theses days

FMCB boots files from the memory card, so there's no other option for it. However you don't need a memory card adapter, you can find many other ways to install it here.

How do you access the HD from the PS2? Do you have the original HDLoader discs?

I access my HD with the hard drive connected to ps2 with the network, adapter other than that not much else, I've just recently learned about this. I don't have the original HDloader, but I could just download it right?

You can download it, but you'll need a way to boot the backup or the elf.
