    Default HDD WinHIIP doesn't recognize

I know this topic has been discussed to death. I've spent the last few hours searching this site and reading lots of other threads found through google. But still haven't found any solutions to my problem.

I am trying to use a compatible 200gb Seagate IDE hard drive. It currently has no data on the drive and is formatted as fat32. I have tried connecting it to my PC (winXP) using both an external usb enclosure and directly in the computer using an IDE cable. The HDD is recognized and is listed as a device and in "My Computer".

When i start WinHiip V1.7.6 it doesn't see any drives and says, "There are no PS2 Formatted drives on your system."

The only thing I can think of is that the drive might need to be formatted differently or should i wipe the drive clean? Thanks

The PS2 doesn't use FAT32. Format it within WinHiip.

Just to try something different I formatted to hard drive with HDLoader when it was in the ps2. So now it should be in the correct format. Maybe?

But when I plug the HDD into the computer, Winhiip still doesn't recognize the drive.

I have tried this with two different computers, but neither of them worked.

Did you try formatting it with WinHiip itself? I had to after formatting with HDL.

but if Winhiip doesn't identify that the drive is even exists, How can I reformat it?

I'll try reformatting the drive back to something like ntfs or just leave the drive unallocated then try this all again.

Under select drive, it should show up, whether it be as (PS2) or (PC).
If it's absolutely not there then I have no idea.

If you're on Vista try running compatibility mode with XP and run it as admin.

You might have maleware on the pc. I would recommend running combo fix on your system. Once cleaned try WinHIIP again.

If your Hard Drive is recognized on your PC, then that rules out the possbility of a completely busted hard drive.

Format it in Windows first of all. Start up WinHiip, go to 'Select Drive' and it should be listed as a PC Drive. Select it, and WinHiip will tell you it is not a PS2 formatted HD. The 'format' option should now be enable in WinHiip, click and away you go.

I had this problem too but what I did was format it within HDLoader so it was in the PS2 format. Try doing that first then sticking it in the computer, as it recognized fine for me afterwards.
