Thread: hacking my fat ps2

So, I've noticed a lot of things around here are a bit outdated, or don't give a straight answer. So, just wondering, is there a solderless solution to put in a modchip, or would it be better for me to solder? Also, what are the different kinds of modchips that I should look into? So, I do want to sort of get a specific answer as to what modchip, and how do i do it. thanks.

if im not mistaken ALL internal modchips must be soldered. you could research Free Memory card boot, its a small application you install on you memory card that, combined with ESR, allows you to play backups, without having to open up your ps2..

There's the DMS4 EZI which doesn't need to be soldered, but it's actually harder than soldering a solder chip from what I've heard.
