I think megaupload is within the law because they are pretty much being punished for the end users deciding to share pirated content. megaupload is a completely public file sharing site intended to share legitimate files and i think they can prove they've maintained sticking that purpose to the best of their ability. considering how public it was, megaupload had a good system for removing dmca protected content as this is a good reason why a lot of uploaders here and even on the sister sites avoided using MU. this might turn out just like the temporary pirate bay shutdown fiasco a few years ago. if they shut down MU then they might as well shut down every other file and media streaming/sharing website as they also give their users the same exact freedom to potentially distribute pirated material just like MU does. With this ideology they should be able to get sites like youtube shut down as people often post copyrighted stuff there too. online piracy will always happen as long as people have the ability to upload anywhere so taking action against MU in this manner is completely ridiculous.
