Thread: PS3 or Xbox360 for modding

I have 4 kids so haviing a machine that can be modded is essential so I can put the original discs in a safe place. We have a wii that was wiikeyed to start with and then sofmod after an accidental update killed all my PAL games for wiikey. Sofmod also allowed for easier game play off HDD. So my question is this. i am looking at a PS3 and the xbox360 for my kids for christmas. Which system is easier to modify so I can play hte games off the HDD. I have read all osrts of info on both the 360 and PS3 but alot of it is so old that it is irrelivant. I want someone to tell me what I would need to do to get up and running in the shortes possible time and whci system they think is easier to crack.

I'd probably go for the Xbox 360, since that is the console you want if your kids want to play online. Also, a ps3 needs a Custom Firmware in order to play so called backups.

I agree with Migler 1. If you have 4 kids you know at least 1 of them is gonaa wanna play new games and as of right now the ps3 can not play many game backups that were made after 3.55 firmware accept for a few that have been cracked unless you wanna spend another $100 for a true blue dongle. And there are only a couple of games your kids could play online but its through xlink kai or xbslink and it would probably be a little bit more complicated for them than their liking. And if you get a new ps3 it can not be jailbroken becasue all of the new ps3's are on firmwares higher than 3.55. You would have to buy a used one off someone if you wanted to jailbreak it and make sure it's on 3.55 or lower. but the xbox would have to be Jtagged if you wanted to run backups on that. So, if you do go with the xbox you should know what your doing when it comes to hard mods. you gotta be careful that when you open it you don't tear the ribbon or you wreck the whole thing. U can either go for xk3y or rgh, both of these methods allow booting of games from hdd but u cant go online using any of these methods.

So for the PS3, the reads on the jailbreak for 4.0 are fake? This is why I am asking the experts. There is so much info out there and much is old because this sort of thing changes fast. I read as late as last night that there is a 4.0 fix and that all it is is a plug and play.

u cant jailbreak any version higher than 3.55 as of now.

OK, so if I were to find a system that was older, about how much older do you thinkI need to go. Can you give me a rough serial number. Then for about $40USD and the cost of a HDD. my kids can play almost every PS3 game out there off line.

It's really not the age of the system, it's the firmware version. You can still buy the Sports Champions 320gb PS3/Move bundle on Amazon and that PS3 has firmware version 3.50 on it, but you buy some original fat 60gb off craigslist and it may have 4.00OFW
