    Thats the wrong cable my friend
    that is what we were telling him about before. it's so that usb 1.1 ports can power drives that expect 2.0 power.

    your usb hdd has a external power supply? because these kind of y cables are one for power and the other for data

    but the usb specification allows for power and data. they don't interfere with each other.

    Anyways, unfortunately, it didn't work. So, i guess it's gonna be yet another harddrive inside the closet (one for the tv, one for the wii and now one for the ps3).

    you could always ask someone from instructables to help you or send an email into the ben heck show. he seems to be good with these sorts of things.
